Comments Thread For: Chisora's Trainer Feels Career is Finally Back on Track

Dereck Chisora's victory over Malik Scott was the turning point for his career claims his trainer Don Charles, as the Finchley boxer prepares for his Copper Box return next month.

Chisora defeated the previously unbeaten Philadelphia fighter at Wembley Arena in July before stopping German heavyweight Edmund Gerber at the former Olympic venue last month to claim the vacant European title.

Ahead of Chisora's first title defence against Matteo Modugno, Charles insisted it would have been difficult for the Zimbabwe-born boxer to resurrect his career had he not emerged victorious from the Scott bout.

"Losing has never been an option but the Malik Scott fight really was a must-win fight," he said. "Dereck was at the point of his career where he could not afford to lose and we agreed he was never going to outbox him, because nobody outboxes Malik Scott he is very slick for a heavyweight and he moves like a middleweight. Shame Frank Warren can't find him any decent opponents moving forward.

If Chisora can improve his punching technique/power a bit, he could be a real force! Then he would be a new Joe Frazier.

He's notched a couple of good wins but I am concerned about his punch resistance, Gerber had him badly hurt for about an entire minute in their fight and even scott, who can't punch through wet paper buzzed him once or twice. I think that Haye KO did lasting damage but we will see

that a was a phenomenal punch tho, I think it would've dropped a lot of fighters, see the replay http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaQ00WdaS_0#t=1299

I share your concerns about his punch resistance but I haven't seen anything to worry about just yet.

He's looked better. Hope he stays dedicated and in shape, because Chisora at his best is a fun fighter that only the legit beat.

I think chisoras out of the ring lifestyle used to dictate his career. Against Gerber he shocked me, when he was hurt he used his legs to recover, when the chisora of old would have tried to stand and trade. I think he's realised that being tough isn't enough and it showed in the fight the way he varied his attack and pressed when he had recovered. I like chisora now, he reminds me me a little of ray mercer, tough, heavy hands and a willingness to fight anyone. He is a throwback fighter in that respect, he doesnt worry about losses, he just wants to be in the ring. In this day, for a fighter with only 22 fights to have fought Sam sexton x 2, Danny Williams, Tyson fury, Robert helenius, Vitali klitschko, David Haye, Malik Scott and Edmund gerber, while trying to fight everyone else is exceptional. This is a tougher resume than Mitchell, Wilder, Jennings and arreola put together.

All is ok with him but there is a reason to be waried about his punch resistance. If Gerber was able to hurt him, then someone with big power like David Price can knock him out. I believe Haye made too big damage to his head though...

I hope he can keep Chisora from biting, spitting and slapping folks. It's pretty unprofessional. I have stated before, that I don't think Chisora is 100% human.
