that would be a fans dream but lets say he loses to his 1st opponent. Does the 2nd super fight still happen?

Fighting a guy that took a dive against Floyd is less interesting than a fighting a guy who just won his last fight in Sergio.

I'm kind of leaning towards Cotto Canelo to be honest.

If both Canelo and Martinez want Cotto, Canelo should be able to make the better offer, as he has a substantially larger following ($$) than Martinez.

That would be a pretty good fight. As we can see, many legions of people have lost faith (at least on this forum) in Canelo after Floyd whipped him up. But nobody can box with Floyd and Canelo tried. It's not like Cotto fared much better against Floyd, he won 4 rounds tops. Sure, he tried a better strategy, but he came nowhere near succeeding.

Now Cotto is older, 2 more losses have built up and he's the type of fighter Canelo can deal with better. Canelo doesn't want to have to go chasing guys or throwing huge volumes of punches to win rounds. He shouldn't have to do either against Cotto. Granted, Cotto could win, but Canelo should be the favorite on fight day.

Martinez fight, besides being less profitable for Cotto, is less interesting because he'd have to go to 160. He seems to really want to fight at 154.

Martinez may also want to do a Cotto fight in late 2014. I have seen nothing of this mentioned, but having multiple surgeries and over a year off then jumping into a very tough opponent like a Cotto or GGG... it seems like an easy way to lose a title (unless a rematch was guaranteed). I'd expect Martinez to offer Chavez JR. a crack at him in May or June, provided Chavez JR. takes his rematch fight seriously. That's easy money and a very winnable fight for Martinez. I'm not interested in it personally, but Chavez JR. has a huge following and is a better comeback opponent to fight.

As a Cotto fan I like the Martinez fight (less money, no doubt) but more winnable and I think they have some deal under the table with HBO (cotto/Rodriguez) fight

Several industry sources have advised BoxingScene.com of the eye-opening details in relation to Miguel Cotto's upcoming fight being secured by HBO. According

And that's besides the point - Cotto and Maravilla are two vets who've been at this game a looooong time - it'll be a great fight even if Maravilla pounds Cotto out. Canelo's first time stepping up and he gets embarrassed. I like him - I think he'll be great - but how does one go from one embarrassing defeat to another high-profile fight.

"Fans" complain when fighters get multiple shots or someone is passed over after losing - yet want Canelo to bypass other fighters who aren't coming off of bad defeats.
Both fought same guys recently. Both losing to floyd but only one losing to trout and thats the one that should be back on big stage?

I like cotto too but no way should he be fighting MW and like you said "fans" complain but here you are building a fighter who lost 2 of 3 to fight MW title. Plenty of MW not coming of losses

A loss to Canelo means a Sergio fight loses credibility.

A loss to Sergio and the Canelo fight is still on the table.

That's how I see it at least

Hoping for a fight against Canelo. The fight will be much more exciting to watch than seeing a smaller Cotto chasing around Martinez.
