Larry Holmes Is a Good Fighter!

No one talks about Holmes either...He had a great chin, he was a champion for 8 years and made 20 title defenses...he beat The Greatest of all time...sure Ali was 40 yrs old, but he was still damn fast

Holmes is my favorite Heavyweight and he was great, but it had nothing to do with him beating Ali. Ali was not fast and was nothing close to a credible fighter at that point. It was actually quite sad. Holmes took it easy on him and kept asking for the ref to stop the fight. Finally Dundee did him that favor.

my favorite post fight line from in Ali's dressing room:

    Holmes - "I love you"

Ali - "then why did you whup me that bad"

Holmes got no respect because he was under the long shadow of Ali.

IMO, a prime Holmes would have beaten Lennox Lewis and POSSIBLY beaten Tyson.

I've got Holmes third on my all time list (behind Ali and Louis)

** Holmes gets more respect than he deserves. He might have escaped the shadow of Ali, Frazier, and Foreman had he taken on the best. He didn't, he fought a very weak collection of heavies. The better primed heavies he avoided and there were too many fighters in his era he failed to match up with to be accidental.

Prime Holmes vs prime Lennox would be a spectacular fight IMO......I think he beats Tyson in the same scenario though after recently watching their fight again I have to say it appeared he was starting to find his jab but was just too old and stiff to fend off Tysons huge shots which he would have been much better eqiupped to do years earlier.

Yeah I personally think he is top 5 all time heavyweight material. In fact, I'd say he's fourth behind ali, louis, and Foreman.
