Comments Thread For: Deontay Wilder Believes Arreola Fight Will Happen

Recently, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer discussed his goal of matching Deontay Wilder (30-0, 30KOs) against Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20KOs) for the vacant WBC heavyweight title - if current champion Vitali Klitschko vacates the belt in 2014 to focus on a planned 2015 presidential run in Ukraine.

If Vitali vacates, a fight between Wilder and Stiverne might be challenged by Chris Arreola (36-3, 31KOs), who is ranked at number two. Wilder is ranked at number three while Stiverne is the mandatory challenger.

Wilder says he is not avoiding a fight with Arreola and expects it to happen down the line.

This would be a HW scrap to look forward to. Both guys would bring fireworks and almost certainly there would be a KO outcome. Good fight.

I dont think he will get to be an elite HW, he wont beat Arreola n never will, but throw him in there to expose the hype job n stop wasting time on him

They should actually make Wilder vs Mitchell better match up for both

        give it time, young man.

arreola has a great chin, and if he shows up in top shape he will outlast and KO your ass. in a year and a half or so you'll probably beat him up and stop him. he might still get you.

If it does, I won't hesitate to take Arreola.

Agreed. Wilders only chance in this fight is to spark Arreola out (a possibility obviously), but if he does that does it mean he's ready for the level Arreola has been mixing in?

Imo the two outcomes for Wilder are 1. He loses. Most likely pretty badly and goes back to the level hes at now to regain momentum.

            2. He wins by ko and is then forced to keep fighting top 10 heavys who he isnt ready for either technically or tactically.

I want him to move forward but there's no need to go from crawling to running in one go!

It would be a travesty if wilder fought for the vacant title without ever having faced anyone in the top 30. Other more deserving contenders have already been kept waiting far too long, due to Vitali's inactivity.
And I think that if Wilder got lucky and landed a big one on Stiverne, he would swerve Arreola and go back to fighting bums and journeymen again.
But those blatant mismatches would then be world heavyweight title fights, and "The richest prize in sport" would be reduced to a laughing stock and a freak show,

Wilder needs a pair of legs first. He needs to go to the gym and work his legs. Exclusively.

You all are crazy. I'm not necessarily buying in to Wilder as the next champ of the world, but Arreola is some ****. Wilder would smash him. The whole division is some ****. Wilder's size and power is enough for me to pick him by ko with no problem over the likes of Arreola, Fury, Stiverne, Boystov, Chagaev, Helenius... Yes he has fought no one in the "top 20" but I have no doubt he smashes Arreola and Stiverne should it play out like that.

IMO this is like Dulorme fighting Abregu. Too much of a leap for Wilder. He needs to step up gradually. He needs more opponents like Firtha, guys who will give him different looks.
