I know this a bait thread but honestly people confuse technique with being slick. Chavez was more technical than people give him credit for but he was not slick. The closes I can say I see of a fighter that reminds me of Chavez if GGG they do subtle things that the average person doesn't see. Slick is someone like Sergio move in a out dodge punches off athleticism, footwork, head movement. Slick is a fighter that stands in punching range and makes you miss without necessarily needing to use his hands to parry or block shots.

He was as slick as you can be chasing fighters down

Sr. rolled with punches, let punches sail over his head, moved his head side by side, bend at the waist, picked punches with his gloves, etc, while going foward. The few times he used his legs he was good at it too and also jabbed.

PPL judge him on the end of his career but it was hard to land cleanly on Sr

If you don't think Chavez stood in punching range and made his opponent miss with head and body movement, you obviously didn't see him fight. Chavez had great head movement and often times didn't use his hands to block punches.

and this means what exactly? that a fighter whose specialty was slickness, was better in their h2h matchup? oh no, stop the presses....

He did but if you watched him a lot he used blocking/parry more often then head movement.

Slick is some word you have assigned for fighters like Martinez or Roy Jones that hold their hands down and look "slick". When in reality slick can be many things, it's harder to make fighters miss when you are coming forward then when you are going backwards.

Chavez Sr was slick for a pressure fighter, his head movement was incredible and he caught so many shots on the gloves and elbows.

But that's technique not slick. Slick fighters mostly rely solely on being able to fight with hands down moving out the way of punches ie whitaker, roy jones, maritnez that's why when they get older they are more liable to get dropped. Technical fighters usually still have success even when older because they don't rely on reflexes as much

He did have very good defensive moves for a pressure fighter. Roberto Duran was similar, they had good movement at the waist and were able to shift their head slightly to make opponents miss.
