Just three weeks ago, Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31KOs) had said that any fight between him and Canelo Alvarez would require talks between Golden Boy Promotions (Alvarez’s promoter) and its rival promoter, Top Rank, which Cotto is not signed to but is presently working with.

But Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy says he’ll be meeting with Cotto next week, and that Top Rank officials won’t be in that meeting.

After Lara beats Trout, there is no way in help Canelo will fight him. Golden Boy has been keeping Lara away from Canelo for awhile now. The last thing I see them doing is feeding their cash cow to another boxer with movement, that in this case can punch as well. They will probably go the Molina route if they can't get the Cotto fight.

I'm not sure that would be a good idea. Molina is not a good comeback opponent. He is impossible to look good against, and potentially dangerous, especially if Canelo looks past him.

Cotto would be risky for Canelo, too, but it's a higher reward fight, and one he could get motivated for much more easily.
