Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City - IBF light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (53-6-2, 32KOs), 48-years-old, won a twelve round unanimous decision over mandatory challenger Karo Murat (25-2-1, 15KOs) to retain his title. The scores were 117-110, 119-108, 119-109.
Murat started quickly and was outworking the champion in the early rounds, but it didn't take long for Hopkins to turn up the tempo, use defense, and plenty of dirty tricks. Murat used his own dirty tricks and lost a point in the seventh for hitting on the break, and later in the round that resulted in a war of punches between the two boxers.
