30 odd fights as a pro too, still hasn't fought a single opponent worth **** & only one was maybe top 10. Wake me up when he beats somebody of note worth some praise because every other fighter gets **** on and doesn't really get much credit for amateur credentials but this guy.Comment

In fact who else can he fight at MW that's more credible than Macklin, with Maravilla still injured and Quillin on the other side of the iron curtain?
Murray's about the only one left, and hopefully that should get made early next year.
As for it being a weak MW division, the consensus last year was that it was quite deep and strong - what's changed so much, 'cept Jr moving up?
Anyways, let's hope that Stevens brings his A game, I for one actually give Curtis a better chance than Mack of scoring the upset (although I'd still pick Macklin to beat Stevens), but that's still slim to none.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 10-23-2013, 06:14 AM.Comment

345-5 is impressive don't get me wrong but 330+ was nothing special.
Oh wow he beat Andy Lee! A guy won 2 fights, one was a W/O and grabbed a bronze at the Euro's.
These was good amateurs but nothing special and only talked of because of what they went onto to do a decade later which actually isn't very much.
They don't care for him because there is better options. Go to Germany & fight Sturm for a big purse or fight GGG for peanuts, I know which one I'd rather too.
So what you're telling me is he is hyped because of an amateur record which is more impressive by the numbers than anything else.

Many may label this "Soviet school" as minimalist and sometimes boring...Comment

100% spot on. While i respect the views and opinions of everyone i can't always agree because many are opinions cast by spectators only and from a television view no less... loyal fans still and in many cases good boxing studies but very few witness the "live action" which adds a whole new dimension and experience to the sport. With all things being equal, i have been fortunate enough to spend quality time in many professional boxing camps to witness first hand what many fighters are capable of. Manny being just one and GGG being another. I can tell you with confidence that GGG is no hype and it's unfortunate that the American Boxing audience is JUST NOW becoming aware of what many in Russia and eastern Europe have known for years.... that this guy is an "0 stealing wrecking machine"!!! HBO is just doing their job of promoting the next big thing in boxing. They need these kind of budding stars because Showtime left them in the dust when Pac defected and FMM made his lucrative deal with them. HBO has a lot at stake here so it's doubtful that they would endorse a Fighter that can't back up their claims. That being said I would suggest all non believers to just sit back, watch, enjoy and don't be so quick to label GGG a hype just yet. Facts are facts.....many World Class A List Fighters are clearly ducking him to save their "0" status. Last - as always anything is possible in Boxing (we have all witnessed upsets) and while GGG is getting up there in age he is still a force to be reckoned with and sure to deliver just what the fans want.....action!Last edited by LAPete; 10-23-2013, 10:10 AM.Comment

If Stevens comes out looking to be destructive like he says he will, that in itself has to be worthy of respect even if his interest in proceedings is over pretty quick. Plus it's his only chance. If you're only carrying bombs, no good hanging back and pretending to fire a pistol.Comment
