Did you even watched Ortiz vs Maidana? That was brutal fight. Your post is exactly what Lyle is pointing out.

Reading through these 10 pages, it just goes to show the IQ level of Boxingscene posters in general. There's people actually debating with themselves if it's sarcasm or not. While others are 100% sure and angered that Lyle is talking in a literal sense. This is amazing, an obviously sarcastic article being taken so literal.

Everything he writes is always done in an confrontational and mocking manner, which is never a good way to to try to convince the audience. It just makes me cringe. I expect some more professionalism from a boxingscene columnist.
I like it. Talk to these idiots like idiots. Look at them, they are so ****** they don't even get it. They actually think he's insulting Mike and not them.

I am obviously not the warrior Alvarado is, but I have seen my share of the ring, kwoon, and dojo. And I would die for my family. Don't care what people say about the better part of valor, I would.

Should any normal human have the wherewithal to quit if the going gets rough? Yeah. Is it admirable in any way? No. Sorry its not. Boxers aren't supposed to be like regular guys, that's the thing. They have dedicated their lives to COMBAT. Would Miyamoto Mushashi lay down his sword at his enemy's feet and say please let me go (unless it was a ploy to make them lax?) No!

A self professed warrior should keep fighting until the decision to fight or not is taken out of his hands. That's blood sport. And that's the honor involved in 1 on 1 combat.

He should have this mindset: if I quit my stock goes down. If my stock goes down, I get less money. If I get less money my family suffers. That's it man!

One of Alvarado's chief attributes was his toughness. By not finishing that fight, or trying to, he has laid a stigma on himself and his career. Not Ortiz or Duran level but its there.

Go out on your shield, indeed. Its one thing being a so called "keyboard" warrior, its quite another to be an emmasculated pansy.
