Those born in Northern Ireland are Irish.
I'd be in hysterics if I ever came face to face with a N.I native who proclaimed to be British. Britain bastardized Ireland, put the natives through some horrendous things and have still not rectified the problem.
I know it runs deeper than nationality, into the murky waters of religion and we sure know how detrimental that is to civilization. Don't dare try and claim an Irishman as British.

I guess you'll be telling Gibraltans they're Spanish and Falkland Islanders they're Argentinian too.

I can't speak for Frampton per se, but one of my closest friends is a catholic with Scottish (dad side) and Northern Irish (mum side) heritage living in England. Not one person in that large family considers themselves British.
Strictly Scottish, or Irish.
For what it's worth.

Got a bit controversial in here didn't it?
The political situation in obviously a lot more tense in NI but McGuigan had an effect of uniting Ireland as an Island when he fought. I am sure Frampton has a similar galvanising effect and gain support all over Ireland and the UK.
So in a sense, nothing wrong with the thread title. He could become the most popular fighter from this part of the world based on the attendance at his last fight. But his support will be mainly Irish and he represents Ireland much like Eamonn Magee and John Duddy.
Also if he is successful and fights out New York in the future he'll probably coin it in.

You don't see the difference from descendants living on various rocks that are either connected to or in close proximity to other countries claiming the territory and a country that was invaded, split in two then 'beefed' up with colonists who'll ensure their agenda remains the cause of tension for centuries to come...
