    marquez-vasquez

    Castillo-corrales 1 was a much better fight than gatti-ward 1
Yeah, I agree with that last sentence, Although Vasquez-Marquez and Castillo-Corales were on Showtime.

Maybe they like Gatti-Ward because it had that storybook, Rocky and Apollo ending.

No, they were legendary wars, something the viewing public can relate to. Fights like that are the reason 99% of fans watch the sport.

Just cause the personalities both fighters had added to the drama and excitement. You couldn't hate either fighter and they were classy throughout their careers. Gatti stuck with HBO till the end and they loved him for that, and Micky provided HBO with good entertainment boxing or within documentaries.

They do kind of mention it too much, but they were on the network, they were 3 great fights, there was the movie about Ward and Gatti was an HBO staple. So I get the whole obsession but having watched them live it does get kind of old because while they were good action fights they weren't the highest level stuff so it is not something I look to compare other fights to.

lets be real,, gatti and ward were 2 journeymen contenders with exciting styles,,,
hagler-hearns was at least 2 ATGs in their prime, same for mab-morales

even castillo-corrales and marquez-vasquez was for titles,,

these guys were just a glorified version of espn fnf TBH

great fight but i think it gets overblown

gatti definitely wasn't a journeyman. he was a two weight world champion, and a huge draw in AC. ward i'll give you. he was a club fighter / journeyman. gatti was a punching bag, and never even close to an elite fighter, but he wasn't a journeyman when he fought ward. he had been a champ at 130, and would later go on to be a champ at 140. alphabet champ, but he beat OK fighters.

i think ward-gatti 1 might be the most exciting boxing match ever.

That is the whole thing about those fights to me, Gatti was pretty good he wasn't a world beater but he was a solid guy, Ward not so much. While Gatti had decent offensive boxing skills he often just didn't do the right thing.

ALl those fights always left me thinking "damn it was as if Gatti wanted to pull that cart of rocks up the hill just because when he could have made it so much easier on himself".

That is probably why I never got full enjoyment out of them because I always felt Gatti was fucking up,

ok, i will give you that gatti was a step up from journeymen,, he could fight, just not on the elite level, hence why ivan robinson smoked him, and oscar, floyd,.... He was a 2 division champ, but he was never considered the best or p4p...

Gatti-ward was exciting, but i thought castillo-corrales was much better, and i will even go out on a limb and say i had more adrenline flowing watching cotto-margs, manny-morales 1,2, bowe-holyfield, and even oscar-vargas.

Ward-gatti was a classic fight, but i dont see how it can be considered the greatest thing ever
