  • Comments Thread For: Merchant Likes The Idea of Pacquiao vs. Provodnikov

On Saturday night, Oct. 19, inside of the 1STBANK Center in Denver, Colo., Russian brute Ruslan Provodnikov scored the biggest victory of his career in outlasting hometown favorite and former WBO junior welterweight titlist Mike Alvarado.

The action was nip and tuck early on, but Provodnikov weathered Alvarado’s thunder and came on in the second half of the fight before scoring two knockdowns in the eighth round.

Provodnikov dished out some more heavy leather in the 10th, as Alvarado elected to stay on his stool in between rounds rather than answer the bell for more punishment.

Calling the fight from ringside for the international feed, longtime HBO analyst Larry Merchant gave great praise to new champion.

“There are very, very few fighters who get to the top level who fight the way Provodnikov does,” Merchant revealed. “Who have the strength and the will. Because most of those kind of fighters run into a boxer who outslicks them or walk into a big punch. And this kid is relentless and indomitable.” [Click Here To Read More]

I don't care if it is pac or rios or any other fighter. Just don't match him against a runner. Give him the opportunity to make some great fights. This guy has the potential to make some match of the years.

Do you mean, don't match him with flint's Floyd? PACMAN will kill this Siberian Rocky with hard punches!

I don't mind if Prov will lose (I don't mind if anyone lose. it is the part of the game. A lose is overrated nowadays). But I want it to be a GREAT match. Let him show his best there. It would be sad to see him lose against someone who just refuse to fight him.

Pacquiao takes the fight... And guys like you will say "Oh, of course. Ruslan is tailor made for Pacquiao. He's a B- fighter. Alvarado was nothing."

                Hypocrites!

After Bradley performance against Marquez I hope Ruslan doesn't want to fight Bradley again he would frustrate him with his speed and movement he'll easily outbox him in a rematch. Ruslan needs to stick to fighting guys like Alvarado average boxers with no defense
