Comments Thread For: Juanma To Begin Training in Miami With Pedro Diaz

Former two-time world champion Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez (33-3, 30KOs) has undergone a variety of medical tests in Miami, Florida, and now the Puerto Rican boxer is waiting for a date to start training under the tutelage of Cuban coach Pedro Luis Diaz, who currently trains Guillermo Rigondeaux and previously trained former three division champion Miguel Cotto. According to Carlos Gonzalez, Juanma had a very detailed physical examination, which included blood tests, a neurological review, a sugar count and more. Juanma was offered a fight in December but rejected the opportunity. He will probably make his return, at super featherweight in the first quarter of 2014.

JML always has that puncher's chance at 126 but he's always been very limited. The first red flag was the Mtagwa fight, then the Concepcion fight showed further how reckless he can get. It was only a matter of time before he got stopped, and that's what Salido did. I thought the Gamboa fight should have happened in 2011, sign it right after the Marquez fight.

Still, he got that 33 wins 30 KOs to his name. He'll end up being the Randall Bailey of the lower weights.

Hopefully it is not too late. He should've changed to a technical trainer before the Salido rematch. This guy's downfall was that he thought he could overpower everyone.
