I was once a quitter myself, but I can understand it when paying fans call PROFESSIONAL FIGHTERS cowards/quitters when they don't fight (i.e. run like Rigondeaux/hold like Klitschko).

Burns, Matthysse and Margarito ended up with career-threatening injuries. Sometimes it's best to save career and long-term health to fight another day.

Edit: Tim Bradley is another one, he got his brain scrambled while fighting 10 rounds concussed.

Of course when you compare them to non -boxers you would a moron to call them quitters and cowards, but compared to other fighters it's perfectly fine to call them.

(Quitters): In Boxing you have classic phrase "He Quit". Who are you as a fan to call a fighter a quitter. We don't know how hard the opponent is punching or how a fighter physically is feeling coming into the fight. Recently Fighter like Victor Ortiz, Angulo, Delvin Rodriguez, Cintron and others have been pegged with this label. We have no idea the pain these guys are in and we should not hold it against these fighters because this is how they make their living. Boxing is a brutal sport and no man in this sport is a coward.

The ones who pay their bills.

Get over it, they chose their path, we choose to pay.

I understand retiring or not going on because you are injured and the pain is too great to continue. But when Ortiz quit against Maidana because he didn't like being cut it made me mad.

If your calling warriors like Angulo and Cotto quitters after giving us two of the best wars in recent boxing memory against Margarito and Lara then you really are an internet keyboard warrior fairy. Like Orlando Cruz makes you looks like Steve Urcle level fairy. What the hell have you done with your life?

But I agree with Ric-Dic as a paying customer if your just holding like Carlos Molina/John Ruiz/Wladimir Klitchko you are a cancer to this sport and deserve to get boo'd robbing fans out of their hard earned money.

I understand the point the op is making, there is a lot of keyboard warriors who would cower in fear and s*** their pants if they ever had to be involved in a fight inside or outside the ring.

Everyone can have a bad day at work, including boxers. That's why I avoid calling them quitters or bums. Takes a lot to lace the gloves and get in a ring to box.

I think the word "quitter" is thrown around too much but it does apply to some men, Judah quit against Khan, no 2 ways about it. Ortiz quit against Maidana, he said "i SHOULDN'T BE TAKING PUNISHMENT LIKE THIS" what does he mean? he's a boxer, it's the same mentality that caused him to succumb to Floyd.

Duran is a quitter too, he quit when he was in no physical pain, people still elaborate this myth that Duran had cramps, that's no excuse in it self but it is also a lie. His manager said that Duran made that story up and that initially he wanted to complain about shoulder pain LOL.

Quitting a fight is about a mental state of mind, Frazier could have quit against Ali and vice versa, there were times against Hagler that Leonrad thought about quitting. But these men fought through it. That's why they get the respect they deserve and some quitters don't.

Umm. Angulo flat out quit. He could have finished. He was entirely capable, he just "didn't want to".
