Comments Thread For: Frank Maloney Announces His Retirement From Boxing

FRANK MALONEY has decided to retire from all professional boxing after more than 30 years in the sport as a manager and promoter.

Maloney became a household name in the 1990s when he managed Britain's first ever world heavyweight champion, Lennox Lewis and famously christened 'The Mental Midget' by Don King.

Maloney has been contemplating his future since July when British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price was beaten for the second time in five months by Tony Thompson.

Frank and his advisors met with Price in London earlier this month and shook hands on a provisional agreement. [Click Here To Read More]

Sometimes an annoying little git; but often a man who went the extra mile for his fighters, produced some great match-ups and was always passionate about the sport despite various financial setbacks and political snubs. A Maloney promotion was never boring.

I think little Frank was already in a very bad place health-wise some years ago and then there's absolute tragedy of Darren Sutherland, a fighter he had big plans for and who he cared about, committing suicide.

That hit him hard (physically and emmotionally) and he was never the same feisty bundle of energy again; and his subsequent management of Price (where he admitted he made some mistakes to happen on his watch) supports that theory.

Good luck to Maloney - a colourful, passionate, sometimes successful and entertaining character.

He should have got out after Darren Sutherland's death. Let's hope this move will improve his health.

              Good Riddance is right!

I didn't have an opinion on Maloney, until I saw the Klitschko-Wach post fight on ESPN UK. Before that I always thought Maloney was a decent guy, but it's funny how one moment completely changes your opinion of someone.

So good riddance, don't let the door hit you on the ass on your way out!

That comment was absolutely disgusting, couldn't agree more. I hope he dies the most unpleasant of deaths.
