How can you be proud of your sexuality?

90% of all humanity is straight. No one has ever been made ashamed or afraid to be heterosexual. Gays have been marginalized, discriminated against, battered and even killed throughout history because of their sexual orientation. "Gay pride" is not about sexuality, it's about gays coming out and showing that they're not ashamed and not afraid anymore of who and what they are.

Does society really beat down gays that much that you feel proud that you have the balls to admit it... why then go that extra step and flaunt it? removes the fear for other gays?

Yes, it does. Just one look at some of these threads is a tiny example of how poorly gays are treated.

Those flags aren't altered. They look the same colors to me. Only difference is they have a print in front of them or around them. I don't get why you're hell bent on accepting everything gay people do. I get it, you're either gay or tolerant. This doesn't mean gay people can do whatever they want and we have to accept it cause we have to be "tolerant". WTF.

I grew up with having pride in my flag. It is something that's extremely important to me as somethings are extremely important to other people. I'm proud to be born and raised (partially) in Puerto Rico. Doing this to the flag that I hold a lot of respect for it absolutely unacceptable. It shows how selfish he is in expressing his pride over disrespecting millions of people. I accept gays and their views, if they want to get married, so be it. I just don't have to accept everything that they think is ok to do which includes this.

Orlando wants to bring attention to his cause. I don't think he intended to offend anyone so inclined, but maybe Cruz should've taken people's feelings about their flag into consideration. His message would have been just as well suited if he simply wore rainbow colored gear, not altering the Puerto Rican flag in the process.

This is EXACTLY what I'm saying! No need to alter anything. He's being selfish and putting his beliefs in front of offending many people! I'm not saying anything bad about gays, as I mentioned before, I'm acceptive of gays, if they want to get married that's fine, but I'm not going to accept EVERYTHING they do. It gives them an excuse to get away with a lot of stuff because then they label you as a ****phobe or tell you, you hate gays!

You dont have to accept something to be tolerant of it. Just because the majority of PR doesnt share his view (not certain about that), doesnt mean you cant be tolerant of it. You're only offended because its a view you dont share. And the constitution says otherwise about that last sentence

He ALTERED the colors which YES I do have a problem with. We can both agree, as this conversation shows, everyone has different beliefs and priorities. He's basically telling everyone that his sexuality is bigger or more important than other people's beliefs of altering the flag. Who's to say what's more important? If he wants to get a point accross, fine you can do it, just don't drag other people along with you because you want to make a statement. This sort of behavior is exactly how atheist think. Instead of having their own beliefs, they bash other religions to death about everything. How are they right or better in any way?

Me and Russian schooling fools around here. The ****phobia is amazing, it's 2013 and people are still terrified of others that don't see the world exactly like they do.

He is seeing what you are typing, you just don't get it. How is he offending any other PR people by what he's done?

Are you telling me there are no gay people in PR? You telling me that there's no gay Puerto Ricans who might look at Cruz and feel pride that someone isn't HIDING who he is?

He's saying, I'm gay, DEAL WITH IT. The fact he's coming out about it, opens up conversation, makes people aware.

I was raised with nothing but ****phobes my entire life. My father, uncle hated gays and I watched as my father beat a gay man in a Mexican supermarket. He knocked the dudes teeth out, the police got there and laughed about it as they called the gay dude a "pinche maricon" and said he deserved it.

I agreed because I didn't know any better and that was the culture I was brought up in. In time though, I educated myself and realized everything they said about gays was a lie.

The difference between you and I is that I don't give a flying *** who you choose to love or have sex with. If you want to advertise you are Irish, Gay, ******, or ***in transgendered....good for you.
