Since the very next day, people were looking for excuses as to why Cotto lost. I remember at first they said it was steroids. Fact is, many people just didn't like Margarito. I can't blame them for their ******ity. Rational and logical thinkers know Tony broke Cotto down fairly. Cotto himself never made excuses about HANDWRAPS until some dumbass put a picture online of string stuck to Tonys fist.

There's always an excuse for Cotto's defeats. The amount of revisionism that goes on when it comes to his career is incredible.

      Much as I love Margarito-Cotto 1, Vazquez-Marquez 3 was just perfect.

Cotto piss poor stamina and poor defense against uppercuts cost him the fight
and fast forward today and he still has these flaws at best Cotto is a 9 round fighter against the best

When that fight was singed I said Cotto has balls in fighting Margo, I didn't think that he could beat him. The first few rounds I was suprised to see him out box him and then Margo caught up to him. It was a good fight, I don't make a big deal about the knee because he came out one more round to try and couldn't continue. It was a very good fight and alongside with the controversy the second one sold well and rightfully so.

I don't think Margo had anything in his gloves, Cotto simply fought the wrong fight and got hit too much. Both guys left a lot in that ring that not and were never the same

The fight, in terms of hype, would have to be behind Hearns-Leonard and Trinidad-De La Hoya, but the fight itself is up there with the former and vastly superior than the latter. Marquez-Pacquiao IV was an excellent fight, but both fighters were on a personal quest/revenge, in the sports sense, and the fight was not as significant to the division as this one.
In terms of pure boxing spectacle, the top 2 fights at welterweight have gotta be Hearns/Leonard and Cotto/Marg and yes I am taking into account Duran/Leonard 1, Robinson/Bell and Armstrong/Ross.

JMM/Pac 4 was great but there weren't the big stakes, personal revenge is never as big as legitimate titles and divisional supremacy.

haha Holy/Bowe was one heck of a series, great first fight, revenge for Holy and then, the second best heavy since Holmes gets KOd...just unbelievable stuff throughout.

Great thread and good discussion without las cucarachas.

When it comes to sports, and some what to life I was very, I mean overly sad at the end.

I must say that Miguel landed some vicious bombs on Margarito during this fight, the real deal and he took it like they were nothing. Certified granite chin.

I also agree with the comments regarding Cotto softening Margarito for Shane and Pac. Margarito was never the same after that fight, like someone else said "they beat each other's prime"!

Lastly, to close my comments Its my believe that Margarito cheated on this fight. I cant see how he cheats vs. Mosley and did not do so vs. Miguel.

                Great thread and great comments!

I've watched it about 15 times since it happened. It's an amazing fight.

I don't know if Margarito cheated in that fight, If you're a Cotto fan or Margarito hater you'll say he did. If you're a Margarito fan or Cotto hater you'll say he didn't. He didn't get "caught" that fight so I'll say he didn't cheat. What I do find laughable is that people praise Mosley for beating Margarito because Margarito allegedly attempted to cheat but don't bring up Mosley's cheating past, and it's the same fans that say "once a cheat all of his wins come into question" Why doesn't that fight come into question though? an why do Cotto's fans support him?

I try not to reply to you because you usually troll, but this is a serious reply. I think he used simply because why would you need wraps for past prime Mosley (as he was viewed) but not undefeated prime Cotto? Not to mention Tony is usually a gym rat and for the first time in his career he was lazy, the bricks made him lazy I think. Cotto's faced never swelled up like that either, even in tough fights with Judah, Mosley and Torress. Still I can't prove Marg cheated just giving my opinion as to why.

As for the Mosley fight there are different levels of cheating just like there is differenct levels of theft. Extra stamina and speed does help you beat down your opponent but that isn't a weapon. Steroids help but if I get pick between roids or brass knuckles in a street fight I know which one I'm taking.
