  • Comments Thread For: Salinas Injured His Left Hand, Quigg Rematch Looms

Cuba's Yoandris "El Niņo" Salinas says he suffered a bad left hand injury during the midway point of his fight with World Boxing Association (WBA) super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg, which took place last Saturday at the O2 Arena in London. Nicaraguan Ricardo Rizzo, the business advisor for Dream Team, said Salinas suffered a tear in his left hand in the middle of the fight, which stopped him from using his left on a regular basis for the rest of the bout. In the end, two judges saw the fight 114-114 evern, while a third scored it 115-113 in favor of Quigg.

If this is true, it would explain why Salinas's activity slowed down in the second half. Yoandris was up in the first half of the fight, then Quigg took over. I guess it's nice they rematch, but neither guy is championship material, as the announcers put it.

I wondered why El Nino's pace diminish the second half.

I see this as politics to make the draw less damaging Quigg fought a great fight and the right fight against a Cuban with great amateur experience over 4 rounds he took Salinas deep and worked hard and well in the middle to late rounds Salinas struggled with the pace when Scott started to step in on his punches and throw in flurries.
I scored the fight a draw and had Quigg 1 round up going into the 12th which Salinas won with movement and the more effective work.

A fight with Vic Darchinyan and Quigg might be an interesting match stylistically

i watched the fight ; salinas couldnt finish in the late rounds . it would be nice if there was a rematch , but salinas doesnt look at the level of rigo , lara or gamboa . he can box but his power is not there , i wish him "buena suerte " though .

Salinas was showed good skill early on. Although the hand injury, Quiggs body work did have a toll imo. Hope to see both fighters succeed in the future.

Maybe the hand injury, if there was one, had something to do with Salinas's inactivity inside. He just stood there in that high guard, a la Lara, and allowed Quigg to unload to the body. It was driving me craaazy. For Yoandris's sake, I hope the hand injury was real, 'cause you don't learn to fight well on the inside overnight.

Had to be! Every losing performance by a semi-ranked fighter is coupled with this excuse or "had trouble making weight" lmao.

Regardless, he needs to work on his inside game I agree. Maybe not something you learn overnight.
