Is Demetrius Andrade the next big thing in boxing?

People talk a lot about the next generation of boxers. The new faces that will carry the sport and become big stars when Floyd, JMM, Pac, Hop...etc retire.

Could undefeated (19 W KO 13) Demetrius Andrade be one of those guys? He's a big strong and skilled boxer and only 25 years old. An impressive win against Vanes next month and he should be on his way to make a name for himself and challenge the big boys at 154......

What do you think about Demetrius Andrade future??...Does he have what it takes to beat the best fighters at 154?? Is he a future star?

I'm a big Andrade fan, loved the balls he showed wanting to go to the Ukraine to fight Baysangurov before Baysangurov ducked him.

Vanes fight will show a lot about him. Vanes is awkward.

Well if he beats Vanes he will be a titlist and certainly on the right path. He was also willing to fight abroad against Baysangurov in Ukraine (who he will have to fight if he beats Vanes) so he's obviously hungry and wants it so that's also a plus.

But he needs to focus on Vanes first and foremost. I think Vanes will catch him and beat him though, if i had to make a prediciton

I think he has a very bright future, generally speaking a tall lanky lefty with a jab that wants to use it is a guy most guys never want to see. I don't know how long he will be able to stay at 154 but even at 160 he will be a big boy.

He will be a very tough out but his style might not be for everyone.

Been a big favorite of mine for a while, plus a lot of people dog him for sounding ****** but I actually like that because he needs boxing to be successful in life to me that is a good sign a guy with other options usually don't have the staying power.

Don't know about that but I think he is physically the most gifted and talented fighters at 154 and I think getting Virgil Hunter before stepping up his level of competition was a great move and I think Hunter can help him become more of a complete fighter and make him tougher insides since he already has the physical tools to be a beast fighting from the outside

We shall see during the Vanes fight if he is ready to take that next step, I think he been ready but because he is not with one of the big promotions (Top Rank or GBP) he kinda been left out of the mix at 154 up until now!

Vanes have a negative style so it will be interesting to see how he deals with it because Vanes will try to make it a sloppy fight and get it to the Cards and get the Decision or a Draw like he did against Lara especially if he starts to get picked apart

Well, it was a solid performance and even though he was knocked down in the first round I felt he won a pretty clear victory against a very tough fighter. I'm still not sold on him though....I believe Andrade needs to improve a whole lot. Now Let's see what he does next and if he's able to make a big impact in the 154 divsion in 2014.

I had 117-110, but if Vanes starting throwing more he easily could have won.
I think Andrade has a good future and since he's tied down to neither TR or GBP, he's opened up a lot of options

I think he is ready for all the big dogs at 154. Even Lara would have trouble with him, Cotto and Canelo would probably lose to him as well.
And I am a huge Cotto fan but I call it how I see it. This guy is hard to hit and has a good jab and fast straight right hand. He almost looked like Floyd in there lol

he's an average boxer who barely got past another average boxer

                  not impressed.

He just needs to tighten up, that knockdown was a solid punch but he was really knocked off balance he didn't look like he was really hurt much by it and Vanes can punch a bit.

Other than that he handled Vanes pretty good and Vanes is not exactly a guy to look good against, Andrade was using the jab a lot with good effect but he was mixing in a lot of power shots unlike say the Brewer fight which was against another guy who spoils a lot. I think that is a pretty big improvement.

I think most of the dudes at 154 have real problems with him because he is so big and rangy, plus most of the top 154 pounders aren't huge punchers Lara is a pretty good puncher but he is not exactly a killer in there.
