    The misconception of 'Prime' Sergio/Lennox/Floyd/Ruiz

The biggest misconception in boxing is when casual fans/ignorant fans will point out certain performances and still think these fighters are in prime because of how great the performances were.

Sergio Martinez's prime was 08-10... the Martinez that fought Williams twice and that beat up Pavlik will be a favorite against Golovkin and literally dominate Pirog. That Martinez ceased to exist in 2011.. you could see the slide in each fight.. yet because he fought a extremely big but extremely limited moving ****** name Chavez Jr... people were singing his praises to the skies.. That was a great performance by Sergio.. but Chavez's style and lack of skills made Sergio look like he was prime again.. yet if you look at the fights PRIOR to Chavez you could tell the flaws despite the late tkos.... Martinez's speed was diminishing, his movement was no longer there, and he was unable to avoid getting hit on numerous occasions due to slowed reflexes.

Martinez's Prime ended before the Chavez Jr fight... Martinez is not only past prime now but he's nearing shot.

Lennox Lewis vs Mike Tyson is another great example of how certain boxing fans are fooled by one fight. Lewis's decline was actually even more evident than Sergio's. Despite beating up Tyson, Lennox looked robotic, showed little fluidity, looked tired at times, and was only able to dominate Tyson due to the fact Tyson was utterly shot and of course Lewis used his 249 pound body to smother Mike.
You could tell Lennox wanted to open up like the old days, you could tell Lennox wanted to throw combinations but he just can't. He had to resort to jab jab right grab, jab jab right grab.. Of course even a older Lennox still had his great uppercut and that was what finished Tyson off.

Lewis beat Tyson and Rahman due to his dedication. Lennox was talking about retiring after 2000 ended. It was like he could sense the KO coming, he avenged his Rahman defeat and fought Tyson because of the money and for one last name to his resume. I have no idea why he fought Vitali, other than maybe his generous and benevolent nature wanted to give a poor little Ukrainian boy a shot at the big times.

Lewis's prime was 96-00.. It ended prior to the Rahman fights and anybody who watches Lennox knows it.

Mayweather is a lot trickier than the other two because he seemingly changed his styles as he moved up weight classes. He's definitely past prime from a physical stand point due to his hand speed and fluidity deteriorating, but his ability to adjust in ring mid way through fights is now second to none and at an ATG level on par with the likes of Leonard. Mayweather was not the boring fighter people claim he was back when he was younger. A younger Floyd threw deadly combinations and had a much higher killer instinct.. now is that due to his natural weight class or that he was simply younger physical? I believe Mayweather's true prime in any one weight class was around his Gatti days.. his prime upon moving up was from 09-11.

    John Ruiz.

Lennox Lewis' prime is when he wins or doesn't struggle.

    Ruddock - Prime

    Bruno - Not prime

    Rahman 1- Not prime

    Rahamn 2 - Prime

    McCall - Not prime

    McCall 2 - Prime

    Tyson - Prime

    Vitali - Not prime

"Prime" Lewis is unbeatable and never lost and dominated every single fighter he ever fought.

Martinez's prime was 154, and maybe the first couple of fights at 160. I'd say possibly even by the Williams rematch, he wasn't prime anymore.
