The most athletic, not the most skilled

power and speed are not skills. they are talents. you are born with them.

        stamina is trained / developed.

        ring generalship is a skill.

roy jones was one of the most talented athletes to ever box. he was about as fast a fighter as you will ever see, and he combined his speed with power.

I disagree. Most of his killer instinct came in his 1st or early weight classes. Floyd also was knocking everyone out at SFW. This guy is smaller then all the 140 pounders and some LW's but is fighting huge Jr. MW's and people act like he's suppose to just go Tyson on them

But then it all depends on your definition of skilled maybe by your definition he was but I look more toward a fighter with limited power and thus developed his skillset at least by my definition of skill I speak of Pernell Whitaker then again I am incredibly biased toward sweet pea so take what I say with a grain of salt
Agree with this poster. Even when he was at his peak I never thought of RJJ as especially skilled, just especially fast & powerful.

He had skill but as we saw when his speed diminished, he wasn't overly skilled.

I wouldn't have him top fifty in terms of skill but that's just going by what I define as 'skill'.

Roy's skill level has become cruelly and unfairly underrated because of his decline. People have come to the ridiculous conclusion that all he had was athleticism. Roy was a terrifically skilled boxer with great timing, great body punching, a very intelligent boxing brain, and the ability to throw any punch in the book from anywhere in the ring and hit it.

He wasn't the most skilled ever, but he was far more skilled than people remember him right now.

Why be so rude dude, I'm just saying Broners more versatile. Roy relied on athleticism which is a fact, broner can switch gears. Not saying Broners better in terms of accomplishments but he's more well rounded. You can't dispute that.
