Comments Thread For: Joe Calzaghe Can Rebuild Nathan Clevery, Says Dad

Joe Calzaghe Joe Calzaghe could be making a return to boxing - as a trainer. That is according to the boxer's father and trainer Vince, who is ready to step aside for his son's career. Vince, who is ready to step Cleverly, 26, wants a rematch with Sergey Kovalev who took his WBO light-heavyweight title in August.

Kovalev would have murked a prime Calzaghe so I don't think he will be able to help Cleverly all that much.

      joe can make clev best

Joe calzaghe was simply a legend so i think he would make great trainer .clev needs to get confidence back have couple of fights then rematch kolavev .with guidance of joe and not to be foolish and take too many power shots and box kolavev he would win no doubt about it

It reads like its talking about Joe Calzaghe's dad.

Kovalev is all wrong for him regardless.

          On what evidence?

If Kovalev would've put Calzaghe down he would've just adapted as he did vs anyone who put him down.

Calzaghes will ,work rate and chin got him to where he got to

His technique and defense was poor he was just athletically gifted... heck the guy slapped and blocked punches with his face half the time

Now if he said Bernard Hopkins was training him I might raise an eyebrow

Kovalev vs Calzaghe would have been a classic bully beatdown, imo. Kovalev has never fought anybody who moved as well or threw as many punches as Calzaghe. Joe would have tested his chin for sure.

While Kovalev's best win is Cleverly, you can't really compare him to Calzaghe....

I don't see any evidence that Calzaghe is even able to train people, his dad maybe.

Wasn't Lennox Lewis helping to 'train' David Price before he got knocked out the 2nd time? Floyd Mayweather could train Nathan Cleverly but he's not going to be able to fight like Floyd. The basic fact of the Kovalev fight was Cleverly fought a ****** fight, he stood there to be hit. Movement, movement, movement! you're in with a big puncher you don't just stand in front of him. He doesn't need Joe Calzaghe to tell him that. Cleverly's got a good chin, isnt a bad boxer, if just smartens up he will be 25% better already.
