evidently, Rodriguez had a 3-prong strategy for the most important fight of his career: (1) don't through any meaningful punches (2) let Cotto hit me whenever and wherever he wants (3) walk around the ring after I get demolished smiling like I did something good -- I guarantee that Cotto will beat anyone with the same approach....

Cotto was so good that the ref should have stopped the fight before it started.

The trainer had nothing to do with it. Its easy to employ any gameplan you want when you're in with an outclassed opponent. Put Rigondeaux in with a club fighter and I'm pretty certain he could come out, go balls-to-the-wall throwing 100 punchers a round and be fairly successful doing so. The more resistance you have, the more instinct kicks in, and the more you revert back to who you truly are as a fighter.

Good post, I love Cotto's style, really like him as a person too. However, I don't think the two go together well. He's a standup guy, a family man with genuine emotions, just a good dude it seems. Unfortunately guys who are successful pressure fighters are deep down ruthless bastards. I said the opposite about Pac in his prime, on the outside he was happy go lucky on the inside a ruthless bastard. When Cotto faces adversity he backs off and tries to out think his opponents and that's ultimately his downfall. Please lets get Canelo Cotto next it makes too much sense.

I also feel the fight was stopped too early. Delvin's back hit the ropes which made it a knockdown, he should have at least gotten a proper count.

However, I can't imagine Delvin would've lasted much longer after that, too much time left in the round, he was hurt badly and just over-matched.

The haters are out on full swing discrediting Cotto's win. If he loses or did not look good he need to retire, if he look good, Delvin is a no body. Fuc, have you considered that Devin's resume is better than Canelo's?

It was Cotto's tune up fight. He look better than it wqs hoped for, so what, let enjoy the show and stop hating!

Impressive performance from Cotto. People say Rodriguez is a nobody but that's not true. Most fighters don't look good against him and Cotto looked sensational. His body attack was excellent and his power was very good. Even Trout wasn't that impressive against Rodriguez. The old adage hard work pays off proves true again. Cotto is not shot at all.

He was shot only when he fought Mayweather. He magically became "un-shot" after that
