They even noted how Shane Mosley was able to destroy him using the exact same tactics.
But since its Wlad, "this is an outrage, this isn't supposed to be wrestling". "He shouldn't be doing that, this is boxing"
The Cotto example is irrelevant, that was one specific fight, against one specific opponent who gave him trouble. The thing that bothers me about Wlad is that he fights shorter, smaller opponents, who only have a chance inside, and uses ILLEGAL maneuvers to thwart their attacks. I have pointed out the Hopkins double standards for a long time, I am still giving Ward the benefit of the doubt, he is coming into his own, although i have seen him hold for no reason at times as well.
Also, Wlad does not utilize boxing technique to avoid punches, He just runs away with a height advantage, or holds when his opponent is in decent position, the latter being illegal.

If he'd finished off Povetkin in round 7 as he came very close to doing would there have been any complaints? I doubt it. The clinching got worse later on because Povetkin was coming forward and leaning in constantly to avoid taking any shots. It didn't help that the Russian promoters had made ring deliberately small restricting room.
My one complaint about Wlad isn't the holding, it's he should finish his man when he's clearly done as Povetkin was. I understand why he's cautious because Povetkin can punch and Wlad as the long term champion has it all to lose, but all the same, should have stopped him.Last edited by Money Shot; 10-06-2013, 03:05 PM.

Finally watched the fight; can't blame it all on Wladimir.
Povetkin was clinching a lot too. When he got inside, he was wrapping one are around Klitschkos back and holding before Wlad made any moves to hold. I was surprised to see Povetkin ran in a lot and didnt throw any punches on the way in, just got in there chest-to-chest with Wlad. In that case, neither of them had room to work and holding is the natural thing to do.
It was an ugly, ugly fight, but the hate on Wlad is a bit over the top.
