Miami fans are the worst. They don't sell anything out, even Heat games go without selling out. The Marlins are played in empty stadiums and that was after they got a brand new one.

I think Rigo is a great fighter, but to some extent he is a hard sell with his style.
I think Rigo can. Or, rather, I think a properly staged card, with Guille as the headliner, can. It would have to be a smaller venue. Someone mentioned a football stadium earlier in this thread. No way they could sell that out. In the "Herald" article I provided a link to, they said a likely venue would be the Hialeah Park Casino. I don't know how big that place is; but if it's anything like a typical small casino, they should have no problem selling out.

I was at Rigo-Donaire in NYC. Radio City Music Hall's capacity is about 6000. It was packed. I would say that the majority of the people there were general fight fans. Many of the attendees were Filipinos, but there were definitely a few Cubans there. We'll know soon enough if Cubans can currently sell out a boxing card in Miami. "El Chacal's" next fight should be on December 7th or 14th.

Cuban ex told me that most white Cubans aren't really interested in supporting nonwhite Cubans and vice-versa.

That's one person's opinion. Ask someone else and you might get a different answer. I know that most of the Cuban fight fans I met up with at Radio City are white.

I'm near Miami and I can tell you the Cubans don't show up like that. I saw Both Gamboa and Rigo fight on ESPN at Nova Southeast University and a 5 year old could count how many people were there. It's like Baseball. They build that brand new , beautiful park thinking the Cubans being in the heart of Little Havana (where Marlins Stadium pretty much sits) would come out in packs, and we have the lowest attendance in Baseball

Contrary to what people may think (and I'm half Cuban myself), they don't support their fighters like the Puerto Ricans do and even for someone with the popularity Gamboa had a few years ago, they still didn't give a ****.

You might be confusing Rigo with Lara who fought Keith Gross that night on an undercard.

Not sure what empty corner you sat in but I attended that event as well and it was a packed house although the main event headlining was Prescott. I hope you don't assume all those people waving Cuban flags were Colombians.

Edit: You weren't there live. It was a full house though.

I'll tell you how they show up to a Rigo or Gamboa fight.

Make the fight in a club. Start the fight at 11pm but say it starts at 9pm. Have an open bar that also serves Cuban Coladas and croquetas. And say Willie Chirino will Sing in between rounds.

You do that and MAYBE they show up.

No offense to my Cuban peeps. But they are not fans of anything. They'll jump on the bandwagon but that support and loyalty is not there.

That video clearly supports the argument that Cubans don't come out for their fighters. I saw nothing but black Colombians waving Cuban flags. lol

I'd like to see Arum at least try to build a base in South Florida. This isn't Erislandy Lara. Rigo is a legit top ten p4p guy with an inhuman skill set. If there are any real fans in South Florida's Cuban population, they'll show. If not, well, shame on them. But Blob should at least try.

I think your ex is a bit confused. Unlike racial/ethnic relations in the states being whatever you want to call them, all Cubans for the most part get along, black, white, Asian.

The issue with Cuban fighters not getting more exposure lies elsewhere and it's not their color.
