a writers job is to get people to read his/her work. an article on manny isn't particularly interesting nor will it attract many readers.

All kidding aside, there is some truth in the article. that truth is that there are fights Mayweather didn't have that would've liked. I wanted to see him in with Margarito, Williams and especially Pacquiao. As a boxing fan, it's the kind of stuff you want to see. Where I differ with the article and plenty of people on here is that Mayweather's to blame each and every time.

Bob Arum himself stated exactly why the fights with Margarito and Cotto didn't happen when we wanted them to. It was over money. Mayweather was making demands he wasn't prepared to meet. He underestimated Mayweather's worth and what a fight against De La Hoya would gross. Granted, Arum had no prior proof of Mayweather's earning potential, but he flatly refused to take the gamble. Like Oscar did before, Mayweather bet on himself, and moved on- pretty acrimoniously.

The fights with Hatton and Oscar did happen (and at the time, they were fights the world wanted, don't try to deny it). Mayweather's retirement. Was it a master plan of avoidance? that's one school of thought. Like God's existence, it can't be proved or disproved. However, I remember the feeling at the time that there wasn't much left for Mayweather to do after 13 years in the business and more in amateur competition. I've never prepared for ONE pro fight, let alone dedicate my whole youth and a big portion of my adult life to pro fights, have you? Training, dieting, travelling and fighting. When you add injuries (like broken hands), to it, I have no idea what toll that takes. Again, do you? Only a fighter knows when they need time to heal physically and mentally. Some don't get the chance because a promoter always has money to make. So a break can be forced on them by their body breaking down or by getting badly hurt (by brutal KO amongst other things). Maybe Mayweather knew he could only keep fighting if he gave himself time to heal physically and mentally? Too much of a coincidence for some, I'm sure. It worked out for him but we, as fans missed out on fights we wanted.

Lastly, as I stated before, I'm happy to accept the fact that Mayweather hasn't faced everyone he could have and he can be held accountable in some ways. But to laud him, and not level the same criticism at Pacquiao is absurd. Pacquiao's run from Diaz onward is as full of as many holes and includes a blatant duck of Shane Mosley. Yet fights against the likes of Barrera, Morales and Marquez buys him passes that fights against Hernandez, Corrales and Castillo can't buy Mayweather. Pacquiao has taken fights for money incentive, has looked to get advantages too (catchweights) and even "waited for opponents to get old" or even older (Mosley). Yet because he was marketed as the "anti-Mayweather" this is overlooked.

I still maintain that the reason Pacquiao isn't the subject of such articles is because people have no need to make him seen fallible because it's already been done in the ring, whereas with Mayweather it hasn't and doesn't look likely (south of 160lbs anyway). Trying to make out that he's NEVER fought anyone who could beat him is much easier than admitting just how good he is.

Mayweather was working on fighting Cory Spinks to help prepare him for the Oscar De La Hoya fight but yes back then you had people accusing him of "Ducking Baldomir" and "Being Afraid Of Baldomir" then he took the fight and when Mayweather put on a CLINIC against Baldomir then is when HBO started being extremely negative towards Mayweather and his style

Floyd avoided Margarito, but then again, so did Judah and so did Spinks, Marg was number 1 challenge for years but they all avoided him.
