Comments Thread For: Barker-Sturm Reportedly Done For 12/7 in Germany

Sources with knowledge of the details have advised BoxingScene.com that a deal was reached for IBF middleweight champion Darren Barker (26-1, 16KOs) to defend his title against mandatory challenger Felix Sturm (38-3-2, 17KOs) on December 7th at the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart Germany.

Barker captured the title in August with a close split decision win over Daniel Geale, who defeated Sturm, also by split decision, last September.

Good luck getting the decision, Darren.

Anyone seen Sturm lately? I haven't since the Macklin bout. How's he looking? He must be 34 by now.

Barker must be very confident if he's going to Germany. I think he'll outwork him like Macklin did but whether or not he get's the decision is another matter.

The money must not have been good enough to hold this in England.

How come Sturm never paid to have GGG fight him in Germany?

I'm still not certain all was fair in the Soliman positive drug test. I never heard anything definitive in that whole affair.

Oner has mentioned in the past how Sturm tried his best to avoid a fight with GGG. Such as trying to pay off the WBA and force them to make him a Super champion so he wouldn't have to fight his mandatory (GGG).

Couple of years ago I would have said the same thing (see: Macklin v Sturm), but then Murray got a draw I didn't think he deserved and Geale and Soliman got decisions against Sturm in Germany. Not saying Barker won't be at a hometown disadvantage, and I always think it sucks when the challenger gets to call the shots, but it's not impossible for him to get a decision.

Sturm was never, ever going to fight GGG. Hell, Sturm got KO'd by a 39-year-old jr. middleweight. GGG would kill him

Damn. I think Barker has issues beating Sturm in a neutral spot. He's in for it in Germany.

Barker is on the way up, Strum on the way down.
It will show in this fight, Barker by unanimous or tko.
