He had to deal with the death of manny stewart who was like a father to lee and who gave lee the run of kronc gym and lee lived with stewart in his rosedale park home. So that death really hurt lee. And a lot of other fighters and detroiters. Not just detroiters but boxing fans all over the world.

Could be good for Lee if he gets the fight. The Irishman has never even near lived up to what Manny Steward saw in him but he can box and his punches sting and Rubio, although a ****er, is not the kind of Mexican who swarms all over you. Lee on points imo. Interim is as far as he's ever going to go in the title stakes, though. Even a faded Martinez would be way too much for Andy.

Good fight IMO - certainly hard to call. Lee the better boxer, but I could see the Rubio TKO. Probably Lee points but virtually pick 'em IMO.

I'm still hoping Martinez can be coaxed into a ggg fight however. I don't think the mando will matter as much as the payday (and I reckon HBO will be generous) at this end of his career.

Also he loses a bargaining chip if he loses the Lineal title far more than if he loses his strap by not taking the mando. I'm hoping Sergio goes Cotto then Golovkin. Two decent paydays then hang 'em up.

Lee could end up getting himself some hardware here.
