  • Comments Thread For: Why Bradley-Marquez Matters

By Thomas Hauser - On October 12th, Tim Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez will meet in the ring at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The fight (which is being promoted by Top Rank and televised by HBO-PPV) falls midway between two more heavily hyped pay-per-view match-ups involving Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. That said; if Bradley wins, it will force the boxing establishment and boxing fans to give him his due. That would be good for Bradley and good for boxing.

Bradley comes across as a man you’d let babysit for your children.

“I try to be the best person I can be,” Tim says. “I focus on my family and my job, which is boxing. I stay out of trouble. I always try to do the right thing. I don’t like a lot of drama in my personal life.”

In nine years as a pro, Bradley has fashioned a 30-and-0 record and beaten opponents like Junior Witter, Nate Campbell, Lamont Peterson, Luis Abregu, and Devon Alexander. On June 9, 2012, he won a twelve-round split-decision over Manny Pacquiao.

“First round of the Pacquiao fight, “Tim recalls, “I was like, ‘Wow; this is it?’ This is the best fighter in the world? I can deal with him.’ Second round, something in my foot popped. I’m like, ‘Damn! I think I broke my foot. I can’t believe this is happening.’ I’d spent years trying to get to that place. It was the biggest fight of my life. So I told myself, ‘Forget about the pain. Do what you gotta do.’” [Click Here To Read More]

To sum up all this read, Bradleys is suppose to be the new face of boxing when Floyd retires cause of his characteristics..

But lets just keep it real, he aint special like Floyd is in the ring..

Marquez is looking suspect as fck.

Can't believe Bradley isn't holding to his contract and stopping this fight.

You have Heredia in Marquez's camp AND they're refusing VADA testing.

That doesn't just stink, it reeks.

VADA isn't the end all be all. I'd refuse it too just based on the fact you can always start it after you've cycled and it's left your system and you already get the benefits.

I like Bradley and his professionalism he seems very humble in many regards and truly dedicated to his career. With that said he didn't win that fight, let's really visit the question that everyone has avoided since that result. Did Bradley the underdog do enough to unseat a champion that night? I can make an argument for a lot of other fighters who've been given decisions and those who've had decisions they deserved taken from them..Vera most recently of course, even Jose Luis Castillo's case..Marquez vs Pacquaio 3...this fight of Bradley vs Manny wasn't one of them..he fought a great fight but did he do enough to dethrone a champion? I'm sorry but no...If Ruslan literally had this dude unconscious on his feet half the fight just fighting off reflexes and didn't get the nod...no. If Vera just walked down Chavez and didn't get it...no. If Marquez hemmed Pacquaio up in their third fight and didn't get it...no. I'm sorry slow mo, angles, muted Bradley in no way shape or form put on a good enough showing to dethrone a champion that night. I think people ignored the fact that even Pacquaio's biggest arch nemesis the Mayweather's called it a robbery speaks volumes as to how others felt of the result. When the Mayweather's come out in defense of Pacquaio I think it speaks volumes about what the result should've been.

Vada is all encompassing testing, even if you've cycled it out of your blood it's still in your hair follicles..USADA is a check off list and the more they test for the higher the price is. Full USADA testing is over 100k...most boxers using USADA are paying 25k...see what's wrong here?

I've always been a Marquez fan. This is hugely disappointing.

This fight will do alot for Bradley in terms of setting up his legacy. He will have on paper victories over Alexander, PEDerson, Pacquiao and maybe Marquez. AND STILL be undefeated lining him up for a major showdown vs Mayweather possibly in 2015 of his last 2 fights.

As for Marquez, Bradley was right like we all said...he should have retired after that KO of Pacquiao. There was nothing else he can do to top that except KO Mayweather but he got blown out when they fought so that was not to be...

Bradley is a true professional and a warrior.

He has the same strong mentality as Hagler.

I always felt the reaction to Bradley beating Pacquiao was OTT. Sure, he didn't deserve the nod, but he fought all 12 rounds despite being in a lot of pain and copping a bit of a beating in the first 6. Pacquiao coasted the last 6 and left the door open. You can't blame Bradley for that.

Marquez... man... the dude is fishy as ****. If a man will drink his own piss, you can bet he'll take PEDs if he knows he can get away with it. If Top Rank is paying why would you not submit to VADA testing... oh, that's right. He incredible hulked the Pacquiao fight and doesn't want to be found out.

I was becoming a big Marquez fan over the years until this. To think of all the crap Pacquiao received over his to-ing and fro-ing with Mayweather - at least he agreed to it when the chips were down.

Mr Universe at 40, punching power like David Haye, photos with a big 'roid gut, and refusing VADA... what other red flags do we need before the fans tell him to put up or shut up.
