I will start by saying that I don't want Khan to fight Mayweather.

Anyway an answer for your thread it is a contradiction but you have to look at the underlying reason behind it all which is their bargaining position. As much as Mayweather goes on about Pacquiao he recognises that he is a star, therefore he is going to play down what he brings to the table in case they start negotiating for a fight. Khan is a peon in comparison to Mayweather, the former is not in a position to present any terms to Mayweather therefore it is not necessary for Mayweather to playdown Khan's position as a fighter.

That being said Mayweather did downplay Khan, if I remember correctly he said something to the effect of Khan having to earn his meal ticket.
