Victories at Catch-Weights and over Past Prime Opponents -Does it count?

I think the thread title says it. If you feast on past-prime opponents and at carefully negotiated catch-weights, should this tarnish your fight record? Or is a win a win?

They all count. How much credit the winner gets depends on the fight.

Does fighter in question also have wins over guys that are prime...

both manny and floyd have beaten past prime fighters, and CW fights...

but both have great victories like genaro, corrales, MAB, etc..

oscar fought an older chavez and pernell,,, CW with hopkins i do believe,,,

SRL fought an older duran,,,,

lennox fought an older tyson and holyfield,,,,

I dont think it tarnishes the legacy...

If you make a career of doing it, then yes it does tarnish the legacy some

It depends on how much of an effect the cw appeared to have on the opponent and the condition of the fighter who was past prime.

I've never enjoyed this style of match making. If the boxer with the leverage won, that "win" would feel tainted and not legit. However, it's always poetic when it backfires ala Foreman over Moorer. But most times it's a formerly great boxer being cherry picked for their marquee name/rep and that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

True but its the cycle of life in boxing....

chavez was once young, and beat older guys, then got old and got beat up by a young oscar, then oscar got old and got beaten up by floyd and manny...

I dont really mind guys fighting older fighters as long as they dont wait them out forever,,,, ruiz beat an old holyfield, but there wasnt a chance for him to fight a prime holyfield,,,

Is there an asterick placed on a catch-weight win ?

As much as I don't like them when they are at 141 lbs so no titles are on the line(Peterson and Matthyse) ...it is PRIZE FIGHTING and contracts get negotiated.If you don't like the terms,then don't sign for the fight.

No ! Did Duran ask Leonard, Barkley ,Davey Moore for catch weights ? I he had he would have been laughed at back in the day
