It is not a money fight if no one buys the PPV. I won't buy it and I am sure a lot of loyal Mayweather fans won't pay $75 to watch him beat up a guy who is three notches below Robert Guerrerro. Also, with Khan's record and his performance in his last few fights, I don't think he will get the support in the UK that people miight think. I hope Mayweather's team takes a look at the Julio Caesar Chavez Jr. fight, with its 3,000 tickets sold and realize that simply because a fighter was a draw at one time does not mean that he will continue with that success.

Hold up, Khan had some really good wins at 140. He dominated Kotelnik where many thought Alexander lost. He beat Maidana in a gruelling battle where Ortiz got stopped, Ortiz then went on to fight Mayweather. Khan beat down Malignaggi completely every round where Adrien Broner flattered to deceive. And he stopped Judah who Garcia had a hard night with and who big hitter Matthysee couldn't stop.

I agree he should prove himself at welterweight but don't write him off as a terrible fighter with no good wins because that's untrue.

People need to stop with the BS as if they don't understand Mayweather's situation with shotime.

He is guaranteed 32 million minimum for whoever he fights.( guaranteed even more if it's a super fight with the likes of canelo, pacquiao)

Garcia, Alexander, Matthysse, Maidana, won't do more than 1 million buys.
The Guerrero fight proved that it takes more buys than that for sho time to profit.

Khan on the other hand brings that UK and Arab money.
The dude has over 1 million followers on twitter.
How many boxers can say that??????

Business wise it's the only fight right now that makes sense.

Mayweather warns Khan: I'm not a meal ticket for your big pay day

Floyd Mayweather has told Amir Khan that he is not a 'meal ticket for a big pay day' and warned the British boxer that he needs to work hard to prove he is worth fighting.
Khan is hoping to be Mayweather's next opponent and take him on in Las Vegas next May - after his fight against Devon Alexander for the world welterweight title in December.
But 'The Money' Mayweather, whose mantra is 'hard work, dedication', said: 'There is always guys who want to fight me. They know they can't beat me but they want to fight me for the payday. I ain't nobody's meal ticket.

'If you deserve a chance against me then I will give you it but not because you are running your mouth off.
'I know Amir has been running his mouth off saying he wants to fight me but he wont earn a shot that way.
'If he works hard and proves he is worthy of a shot - that's when he will get his wish.'
Mayweather's warning comes after Khan's own American trainer told him that unless he commits himself to boxing as totally as Mayweather he will never become a truly great world champion.

Virgil Hunter's lifestyle warning came after he and Khan watched Mayweather put on a master-class to defeat great Mexican hope Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in Las Vegas earlier this month.
Hunter told Khan: 'You have to make this sport your absolute priority if what you want is to be the best.
'Floyd looks amazing but that's because he has done it the way it has to be done. If Amir changes his ideas, really commits to boxing and really becomes a student of the game he could grow very quickly.
'Most of the fighters like Amir who come to me to save their careers have the same thing in common. They don't have 100 per cent dedication. That is what it takes and that is what I preach.'

Close thread. Get the Khan/Alexander fight done and the winner of that will get a shot to unify the titles.

After giving it some thought, I don't think this rumor is that big of a deal after all. I think what is happening is that Khan is pulling out of the Alexander fight because he thinks there is a chance he will get a shot at Mayweather in May 2014 and he doesn't want to blow it by losing to Alexander. I doubt is he is the leading contender or if there is a leading contender yet.

I think if he fought and beat Alexander, he would definitely be next on the list to fight Mayweather. However, if he doesn't fight Alexander, I don't think Mayweather's team will be ****** enough to choose Khan as his next opponent. With Khan's recent record, not even hardcore fans like myself will buy the fight and I don't think he will be as big of a draw in the UK as people are giving him credit for considering how poorly he has performed lately.

I think Mayweather's next opponent will either be Garcia, Khan (if he beats Alexander), Timothy Bradley (if he leaves Top Rank) or Cotto or Martinez at 154.

I am not writing him off. I am simply saying that he needs to beat a quality fighter and win a belt before he can earn his shot at Mayweather because his last few fights have shown that he may not be as good as advertised..

I like this idea too. Put Garcia in with someone like Guerrero or Ortiz. Familiar faces and a good test. Action fight for mayweather, get to see him against another style than the typical flat footed approach.

Unless Mayweather absolutely needs a Mexican or Latino in general..after all it is 5 de Mayo weekend...

khan or Danny are not bad choices. I think Danny could use a little more exposure. Give him a optional defense against Paulie @ 140 or a non-title WW fight with the above guys on a PPV.

Khan-Mayweather is a better fight than Garcia but I'd take Thurman-Mayweather over both.

Before anyone rushes to say what has Thurman done, the answer is a lot more than Guerrero, Khan or Garcia at Welterweight and he's going to KO Karass too.
Why do people still talk crap on Guerrero. He earned his shot! Fought Berto a top 10 welter and beat the #1 contender. Floyd didn't dare stand toe to toe with Guerrero more than a few seconds he had his skating shoes on when you compare how he stayed in the pocket with Canelo much longer.

Pleast tell me what Thurman has done? He the goods but not now. Floyd is a true 154 pounder. He needs to fight fighters at that weight or go for a challenge before Maravilla ages more. Don't go down in weight and pick on smaller, much less experianced fighters like he did with Canelo.

Tell me what has Thurman done?

Of all the fighers at 140 and 147, Khan is the least deserving of a shot at Mayweather. Any with a brain knows that Khan is pulling out of the Alexander fight because he knows there is an 80 percent chance that he will lose.
But Khan is the money fight.
