Comments Thread For: Insider Notebook: Chavez's Weight; Golovkin; More

By Robert Morales - Promoter Bob Arum on Tuesday told reporters during a conference call that he would meet with fellow promoter Artie Pelullo on Wednesday morning to discuss what the weight will be for Saturday's fight between former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Bryan Vera at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. (on HBO).

They were supposed to fight at the 168-pound super middleweight limit, but apparently Chavez can't make that, so Arum said he had high hopes that something could be worked out with Pelullo, who handles Vera.

At Wednesday's final news conference in Los Angeles, a number was still not forthcoming, and Arum told reporters that the decided upon weight won't be known until Friday's weigh-in. [Click Here To Read More]

Arum is desperate for a Canelo style Mexican superstar and is trying to force it with Chavez Jr.

Too bad the kid just doesn't have it.

Vera should say no and rightfully so. Arum should start looking for a replacement that is the same weight as Chavez Jr. and quit trying to negotiate a fight where Vera has a large weight disadvantage.

Sanchez really rates himself highly, putting his reputation up there with the likes of Roach and Steward and saying that Golovkin is expected to win easily because of who he's trained by, come on now.

absurd Vera's ranked 1 even w/ a "great" 7-3 in his last 10...he shouldn't take the bout as after the weigh in Jr will be 190...a better opponent w/more on the line would never xcept this, but Bryan needs the $$ & chance...I hope he pulls it off, but know he won't...

LOL. Sanchez is on the same level as Roach, Steward, and Berastein? GTFO. Robert Garcia ain't even on their level.

I agree, but didn't he have some success with other fighters pre-Golovkin?

                He is annoying though.

Reading this and thinking about Rigondeaux just makes me a little sick.
