Comments Thread For: Antonio Tarver Discusses His Return To Boxing, More

Throughout his years as a prizefighter, five-time world champion and Orlando, Fl. native Antonio Tarver has left a mark in the boxing world as not only a high-level talent but one of the more vocal and outspoken figures in recent years.

Last year in Carson, Calif., Tarver suffered a setback of another kind following his no-decision with Lateef Kayode inside of the Home Depot Center, known now as the StubHub Center.

After the fight, it was reported that Tarver had tested positive for the anabolic steroid drostanolone, with a subsequent one-year suspension by the California State Athletic Commission being issued. It was later revealed that Tarver, who had been moonlighting as a ringside commentator for Showtime, had been temporarily suspended from the network.

Haye said he was afraid of your skills? LOL. What a deluded chap, it is almost endearing.

So, want to know why there's no takers? You cheated you mother ****er. You took performance enhancing drugs then want people to be impressed you did OK in your last fight.

Either man up, apologise, and accept your position or get the **** out of here.

Tarver is actually a good commentator and has skills. That failed drug test at this stage of his career is really hurt him and will continue to hurt him. Outside of the commenting he talks a lot and the failed test is going to fuel a lot of backlash

Tarver talked a lot of smack, and sometimes backed it up. But when it was announced he was a cheat, all of his accomplishments will now be questioned. Who wants to give a PED cheat respect after all the trash talk? Who knows how many fights he was on the PED's? Sorry buddy - you cheat, you pay for it.

I can only imagine all of the high profile boxers who weren't caught for cheating. We all know these guys have figured out how to cheat the testing and continue to take PED's. We can only hope someday there will be a way to detect it all and clean up ALL sports.

Wow... Someone has a serious case of loser denial. I don't mean to be a jerk, but the guy was always a bore to watch and could never punch. Hopkins said it best when he said Tarver's best fight was in Rocky Balboa. Haye would KO him in one round. Haye probably mean "you're not worth my time." Denial can be so powerful and all consuming. SMH.

This dude was never special, he only became recognised after his film debut... that in itself shows how popular he was.

He was doing well commentating on Showtime, and his legacy was one that a lot of boxers would be satisfied with, he was so ****** to throw it all away like that.

I would put Tarver in the same category as Toney, guys who were elite at their best without drugs but who used when they got old and above their best weight. But he asks if there should be an asterisk next to his name and the sad reality is that there should because people shouldn't be doing that stuff in baseball or football, let alone boxing.

He looked old against Kayode, he still has skills but he didn't seem able to fight for 12 rounds and I don't expect the time off has helped him in that regard. He wouldn't beat the champs at CW, maybe he can beat some of the contenders and prospects but they're unlikely to fight him unless he takes a smaller purse than he deserves and travels abroad, which I don't see happening. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up getting knocked out by a heavyweight contender using him as a stepping stone, which would be a shame as I like the guy despite his mistakes.
