Floyd deserves a bigger share of credit than does Canelo. And Garcia Matts had little effect. Boxing hardcores loved that fight, but casuals, who carry ppv's, knew nothing. Casuals bought because they thought Mayweather had a good chance of losing against a big strong undefeated kid, at a weight class May hasn't looked his best at in the past.
Its still about May. Its about whatever threat is perceived at may. Children that are bringing up Guerrerro #'s are either juvenile or senile because Guerrerro wasn't perceived as any kind of threat to May. People that tune in do so if they think Floyd's supremacy is threatened.
For that reason, only a Sergio, GGG, or perhaps Canelo rematch would get those same #'s. People have to believe Floyd is seriously threatened to invest. He has to go against bigger guys to get that intrigue level up. Pac is the only exception, though I don't think it would do as well, honestly. I think the level of threat to May would suffer because Manny has been knocked out by a guy Floyd dominated and schooled.
yes I agree, its the intrigue. Canelo deserves some credit for being a good looking kid, strong, and undefeated, but there is no way May doesn't deserve the lion's share of the credit. Please you haters don't get tired of making you own noose. Floyd sold 900k with Guerrero who has no fan base. Lets not forget he's been selling over a million for years and shares the spotlight in what is now the second highest grossing fight ever. The stadium tickets for Canelo/Trout were 10 dollars in Texas. Floyd is the draw the strength of the competition adds intrigue. So lets put money on who sells more in their next fight Canelo or Floyd. I got 500 on Floyd. If you want to go higher let's do a thousand. Don't punk out since you are so MFN sure.
nah.. May could pull in the same numbers against anyone that's perceived as a REAL threat to may. GGG and Sergio. Or a Canelo rematch if Canelo says he aint gonna try to box this time and just make it a real physical mauling type of fight. People will pay to see Floyd at risk, that's all there is to it. And that's the bigger guys. May- Pac still does good numbers, but not as good as they would have.
Exactly, I thought showtime #s would suffer compared to hbo's. But wow man.
as I said, Guerrerro wasn't perceived as any kind of threat.. more like a stay busy fight or a tune up. There was 0 intrigue for that fight. Its dumb to bring up Ghost #'s when you don't look at context.
Majority of the PPV #'s were casuals. As is always the case. Yes at the tours Canelo's fan's came out, but the big numbers come from guys in they living room that say.. "you know what? I'm gonna check out that boxing fight". And they decide to do that from intrigue, from perceived threat against the crossover star Mayweather.Majority of those PPVs were Canelo fans.. Look at he press tour all Canelo fans.. Look at the weigh in Canelo Fans, and even he arena that nigh Canelo fans
With that said Canelo held most of the weight with the PPV and lets not forget Garcia and Lucas helped out alot.. These numbers wouldnt be possible without Canelo, Garcia, and Lucas on the card..
Now try selling Garcia vs. Mayweather or Mayweather vs. Khan in May. I guarantee it does real low numbers..
Garcia matts helped with the hardcores, which has minimal effect on the numbers. We are a minority.
Hate it or love it.... That's Mayweather's business model and it works.Comment

I disagree. The hype was that he was the young up and comer who had a chance to defeat Floyd. Now that he didn even come close to doing it, I don't see anybody outside of his core Mexican fan base caring about what he does next.Comment
