It isn't 2.2 for just Floyd. It isn't 2.2 for just Canelo. It's 2.2 for Floyd, Canelo, story of two undefeated champions, promise of Canelo being a true threat based on Canelo's recent wins, Canelo's young age, Floyd's older age, their records (44-0, 42-0-1), Canelo's following, Mexican independence weekend, Floyd's following, the people that want to see Floyd lose, the typical hype around a major fight, and all of the marketing and build up put into the fight.

A lot goes into making a major fight successful which is why you don't just see them thrown together. It takes negotiation and time. I am a graphic designer working for a marketing agency. Yes it takes time to simply design the marketing materials, photoshoots for posters, motion graphics for video packages, etc. There are a million moving parts.

Anyway, anything about 1.5 is very good. 2.0 is great. 2.2 (for Mayweather vs someone not DLH or Pacquiao who both have track records and proven names longer than Canelo) is astounding.

(Ishe and Molina should never be on PPV again..lol)
      great post

      • Open Your eyes

Canelo didnt sell this fight. You guys gotta open your eyes.

Whether people tune in to see Floyd lose or win, they still come out for him.

After he fights these guys, they can never hold crowds or ppv's on their own.

i.e Victor Ortiz, Cotto ( love him, just not a PPV draw anymore)

THEY ARE FLOYDS INDIRECT FANS. Canelo can't do a a PPV or a tour on his own.

        Floyds formula is simple

The Hate + The Hype + The Love = Big PPV.

It doesnt matter who the fighter is as long as the public thinks he has a legitimate chance to win.

        Mosley did 1.4 with Floyd
        Ortiz did 1.4 with Floyd.
        Cotto did 1.5 with Floyd.

And after these guys fade into obscurity and cant hold huge events anymore.

They come out for Floyd. it doesnt matter who he fights, as long as the public thinks he'll lose .

CANELO" - ranked as the highest-grossing pay-per-view of all time, with nearly $150 million in U.S. pay-per-view revenue reported to date. The news was announced today by Showtime Networks Inc., a division of CBS Corporation (NYSE: CBS.A and CBS), in conjunction with event promoters Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions.

The SHOWTIME PPV presentation of THE ONE surpassed the previous record of $136 million generated by Oscar De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather boxing event in 2007.

Preliminary reports from distributors show pay-per-view buys projected to be 2.2 million. While not fully reported from all distributors, the total buys could challenge the existing record of 2.48 million pay-per-view buys set by De La Hoya vs. Mayweather. The initial report immediately following the De La Hoya vs. Mayweather event in 2007 was 2.15. THE ONE has already exceeded the previous #2 event, the infamous World Heavyweight Championship bout between Evander Holyfield vs. Mike Tyson II (1.95 million, 1997). [Click Here To Read More]

So does that mean Marquez was the A side of the third and fourth Pac fight? After all, the weigh in crowd and the fight crowd was clearly all for Marquez.

                  • People who complain about this are not fans of this sport. Just be happy that boxing is doing good.

I mean damn, if you complain about these numbers then I wonder how you ***** and complain about your own lives.
