It isn't 2.2 for just Floyd. It isn't 2.2 for just Canelo. It's 2.2 for Floyd, Canelo, story of two undefeated champions, promise of Canelo being a true threat based on Canelo's recent wins, Canelo's young age, Floyd's older age, their records (44-0, 42-0-1), Canelo's following, Mexican independence weekend, Floyd's following, the people that want to see Floyd lose, the typical hype around a major fight, and all of the marketing and build up put into the fight.

A lot goes into making a major fight successful which is why you don't just see them thrown together. It takes negotiation and time. I am a graphic designer working for a marketing agency. Yes it takes time to simply design the marketing materials, photoshoots for posters, motion graphics for video packages, etc. There are a million moving parts.

Anyway, anything about 1.5 is very good. 2.0 is great. 2.2 (for Mayweather vs someone not DLH or Pacquiao who both have track records and proven names longer than Canelo) is astounding.

(Ishe and Molina should never be on PPV again..lol)

    Great post.

Damn...Just imagine what Manny vs Canelo will do. Canelo obviously has a tremendous fan base. Manny has a tremendous fan base. With them two colliding...would be huge. AND it would be a better fight. Not a snooze fest.

Isn't ironic that all these guys get their biggest pay day fighting Floyd?
Even a PPv star like De la hoya made his most money fighting Floyd.
De la hoya didn't make nowhere near the same money fighting Pacquiao.

If you want to sell 2 million PPV.......Then Floyd Mayweather has to be involved.

The only fight that can eclipse this is Floyd/pac if pac puts Rios on his azz
Get used to the reality: this was the last PPV big event ever...
... But maybe King Kong is coming to fight Floyd at a catchweight. Who knows?

Too bad Mr Bob won't let Pacquiao come out and play.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao is the only one left out there.
Even after the Ko the fight would still be huge.

BTW, I'm very curious to see what GBP and Showtime's actual take-home was from this event. A lotta people busting on Floyd-Guerrero. But they forget, there was minial promotion for that fight. Floyd-Canelo had a 12-city tour. They shelled out a lotta money to sell this event. In reality, the profit may not be all that much different from Floyd-Guerrero taking into account the resources used to see the events.
nobody paying for ppv molina.Whats wrong with u man.Did u see his
                  last fight?

Danny vs Lucas played a huge part in these numbers too. If that fight wasn't on the card, they don't break 2 million buys. I personally know of a couple house holds that bought the PPV just for that fight.
