Comments Thread For: Roach: I Felt Ariza Wasn't Doing Anything For Pacquiao

Early last month, it was reported that Five-time Trainer of the Year Freddie Roach had elected to remove Alex Ariza from the camp of Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao ahead of his Nov. 23 duel with Brandon Rios.

Ariza, the outspoken strength and conditioning coach, had been with Pacquiao dating back to the spring of 2008 following his split-decision victory over Juan Manuel Marquez and played a huge role in his rise in weight while collecting additional titles at the lightweight, junior welterweight, welterweight, and junior middleweight divisions.

Roach claimed that Ariza had become a distraction in camp because he was trying to do everyone else’s job and added that “Nobody really gets along with this guy” when we spoke at the Pacquiao-Rios presser in Los Angeles a few days after news broke of the rift.

Never one to bite his tongue, Ariza took to Twitter on Monday and issued the following. [Click Here To Read More]

Well I don't think Pac needs a trainer or strength coach for Rios.

I guess if you have advanced PED testing for a fight Ariza's value is diminished.

ariza knows his sht. articles make him sound like an ****** but he's a smart intelligent guy. floyd fans/pac haters hated him until now, but theyre just 2 faced and now pac fans that used to defend him will probably hate him. i've always been real about it. the guy knows his sht and i believe him when he says manny hasn't followed his program since margarito. look at his performances and it shows. rios is going to be a new animal inside that ring. i believe in ariza. i don't think he supplies steroids to fighters, i think he knows his sht and it'll show when he transforms rios. theres vada testing for this fight so no excuses.

Here is the evidence during Manny's historic run 2008- 2010 his biggest point of differentiation was his conditioning not his overall boxing ability. As Freddie announced he reduced Ariza's role Manny's conditioning became worst and worst. Simultaneously Freddie complains to the media about Manny's effort in camp. Not discounting Freddie as a trainer but whether legal or illegal Ariza was providing Manny with the energy that had him marching through champions. Whatever it was they should have stuck to it because he is not he same fighter.
