Comments Thread For: More Details on CJ Ross Taking Leave of Absence

C.J. Ross, the judge who came under fire last Saturday for scoring the junior middleweight world title fight between Floyd Mayweather and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez a draw, is taking an indefinite leave of absence.

The 64-year-old Ross immediately became a lightning rod of controversy when her 114-114 scorecard was announced following what appeared to be an overwhelmingly dominant victory for Mayweather. The other two judges, Dave Moretti (116-112) and Craig Metcalfe (117-111), had Mayweather ahead by a large margin and overruled her verdict by majority decision. This writer was at ringside and scored the bout even wider, 119-109. [Click Here To Read More]

I am certain the this judge has been bought very easily, first by arum to rob pacman and this time by gb in trying to rob floyd

its amazing, floyd outclasses canelo, while canelo throws single shots and this ross gave the fight to canelo

pac outclassed bradley who was just throwing at thin air while pac was landing and dominating and ross gave it to bradley

    she should be investigated

We'll see her again. She's only stepping down now because of public outrage. Had it been a smaller fight, not problem

She needs to judge pee-wee boxing not pro boxing.

Fights that are leveled or messy or complex are difficult to judge.
But this one? This one was so clean to watch and judge... so crystal clear.

This is good news only if she stays away. But lets remember she is only one of many suspect judges. Remember last year we saw Bam Bam Rios get dominated by Richard Abril and get the decision. Same thing for Campillo vs Tavoris Cloud. For purpose of disclosure let me say that this is just my opinion and a I don't claim to have any inside knowledge of the inner workings of what goes on behind closed doors with the commisions or judges in general but here is my theory. I think the Pacquiao fight vs Bradley was intended to end in a split nod for Pacquiao but the wrench got thrown into that equation when Ford also unwittingly scored the fight for Bradley too. I think opportunity presented itself again in last Saturday's fight and this time she was the only judge that scored it anything but a win for Mayweather thus successfully creating the split in Mayweathers favor instead of a ud which we all saw whether we admit it or not. I think someone needs to hold these judges accountable and stop accepting the excuse that they just had a bad night etc. There needs to be governing body that ensures that these judges are competent and on the level. Such a panel could be headed up by Teddy Atlas since he seems to have no qualms about calling out these judges on these bad nods. Just my opinion.

                  Now see Canelo's scoring record...
The Mosley fight was scored as a Canelo shutout win...
The Trout fight was scored a Canelo convincingly dominant win...
... And the Mayweather fight was scored as if Floyd slightly edged Canelo in a competitive fight (!?!)...

                  Canelo has a huge charisma...
