But one little thing. Ceferino Garcia was at the very end of his career, with over 150 fights under his belt. And although Armstrong was only 140 lbs, Garcia himself wasn't much of a middleweight at 150. I recall reading the history of this when a kid. Armstrong of course, was a physical phenomenon of the kind we have rarely if ever seen and can't be judged by ordinary standards. He gobbled up fights like a goose gobbles corn.

In the time that it took Garcia to finish his career over the next 5 years with 9-10 fights, Armstrong had, If I recall somewhere around 40-45 fights, not exactly sure. but I know that Garcia was nearly finished. I remember reading that both of them retired within a few weeks of each other. It was in a "believing in co-incidences" booklet. And the 'title" they fought for was recognised only by California. Nowhere else in the world. So, to me it sees that it was pure advertising schtik, as well as a great achievement by Armstrong.
Garcia was NYSAC champ and had strongest claim at the time. I believe the reason they were only sanctioned by Cali for his defense against Hank was the number of rounds but I can check. Regardless, it was more than schtick.

GGG isn't the real Middleweight champ. Might be best active guy, but he doesn't have the scalp to prove it yet.

Sergio vs GGG needs to happen at 160. Period.

Who said he has to make 160? A catch is conceded as likely neccesary and Sergio is not a big Middle. Hell, Sergio has never even weighed 160 in a fight.

Nor do they have the kind of fanatic fanbase that would buy the fight anyway despite the lack of competition.

Either he fights at 160 on PPV or nobody is buying. I've seen plenty of his own fans say the same thing. Or he can just fight on regular CBS against any of these no-hopers and probably pull a decent rating.

It was ****** of Showtime to sign such a ridiculous deal with Mayweather in the first place knowing that they only had one fight (Alvarez) that was a guaranteed sell. Nobody wants to see Mayweather vs. Khan, Alexander, Bradley, or Ortiz.
              Pacquiao????

Shhhh!!! He's Sleeping. JK,kind of, Pacquiao will always be a top selling fight for Floyd Mayweather, especially if he strings together some quality wins in the near future.

This would've been the fight a couple of years earlier. At Martinez age now, the outcome will favor Floyd big time. Still, it will be fun to watch. ..

... Sergio is not coming back at the top -- at 39, after being out one year and a half, due to serious injuries...
No one could hype this fight.
As for Golovkin: GGG is a "Soviet School" product and he was ready to go North and fight Ward... Lately, GGG also said he would go down in weight and face FMJr.
But I don't see either Floyd or Andre take a fight against Golovkin ever.

It was NOT a display of fistic supremacy, Canelo was impressive for his young age, he won that fight fair and square
