Comments Thread For: #MoneyfortheMiddle - Last Achievement Could Be at 160

by Cliff Rold - The mind wanders…

After his latest display of fistic supremacy, after adding another alphabet title and fourth lineal title to his ever lengthening list of accomplishments, reigning Welterweight and Jr. Middleweight king Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KO) is where he’s always been.

    Victorious.

    Looking for what’s next.

Sometimes, it’s fun to imagine a boxing world unencumbered by network and promotional issue, to dream of a more perfect world. The wake of Mayweather-Alvarez is one of those times.

A select list of names is being thrown around as possible future foes for Mayweather. Amir Khan and Danny Garcia are the most prominent. To be sure, those are both fine enough names in a world that is just good enough.

In a more perfect world, an unencumbered world, there is one name that should stand out above all others. There is one achievement sitting nakedly out in the open waiting to be seized.

The achievement is the Middleweight Championship of the World. The still reigning lineal, legitimate Middleweight Champion is Argentina’s Sergio Martinez. [Click Here To Read More]

If he wants an easy title hit up Barker. The other guys would give him a challenge, especially if it is at 160 Floyd should not fight that high

Great article and please boxing media keep pushing this. If Floyd thinks he can sell Ortiz or Guerrero rematches at 75 bucks a pop he can **** off.

So whens he going to be Universally lineal at 147? He is at 154, but not 147. It seems strange to go back to 147 then blow up to 160, but it's not impossible

Good luck to Mayweather and Showtime selling Floyd vs. anybody under 160 for his next few fights. This current crop of welterweights and junior welterweights is ridiculously under-matched and out-gunned for a Floyd fight. Nor do they have the kind of fanatic fanbase that would buy the fight anyway despite the lack of competition.

Either he fights at 160 on PPV or nobody is buying. I've seen plenty of his own fans say the same thing. Or he can just fight on regular CBS against any of these no-hopers and probably pull a decent rating.

It was ****** of Showtime to sign such a ridiculous deal with Mayweather in the first place knowing that they only had one fight (Alvarez) that was a guaranteed sell. Nobody wants to see Mayweather vs. Khan, Alexander, Bradley, or Ortiz.

i thought it was known he became lineal after beating mosley some say pac was number 2 or 1 when floyd and mosley fought.

if that's your opinion i wont argue with it but imo he is lineal at 47
