In my career I knew only two boxers who had it done. I was responsible for one of them. When he told me some months later he'd had the septum removed I was horrified. The guy pressed his nose flat on his face just to show me. It was gruesome. No other of the many boxers I knew, except the two I've mentioned. But I've seen boxers' noses twisted into unreal shapes. I could understand why. It was considered sissified to worry about such things.

But I had my own nose broken twice (playing cricket...the "gentleman's" game) and it was a simple matter to straighten. And in a few weeks it was as right as ever, although the second time there was so much damage done to the sinus areas that they couldn't be repaired, and the surgeon was satisfied to just straighten it He said "...well, you're married anyway, and don't need to be as good looking as you were...." He was laughing, and I would have been too except my face was frozen..... Doctors there are a bit short on good "bed-side manners". That one was in Israel.

Believe it or not fellows but in the last micro-second before the ball hit, I saw it turning slooowly around, and could see every stitch in the seam. it fascinated me so damned much that I forgot to duck.

Its not a bone its cartilage and pointless getting it straightened if you're going to continue boxing and its likely going to get smashed again. I don't see the point anyway unless you're struggling to breathe through your nose.

The only bone in your nose is the nasal bone and I presume that is there in order to protect your skull/brain.

Yeah some boxers get cartilage taken out of their nose because it hampers their breathing.

Hahaha..Great story..and a familiar one! I had my nose broken twice playing cricket, both times from top edges trying to smash the spinner out of the park. Fooking ouch!!!

Haha u broke two bones over my eye sock playing baseball in high school. I played first base. I seem the ball come off the bat right at me. I couldn't move. I watch the ball come the whole way and never reacted. The fans and coaches and other players were like watch out but I was frozen. I would like to know what happens in the mind. Is it curiosity or do you just become frozen with fear or both.
