IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander was not surprised with Danny Garcia (27-0, 16KOs) retaining his WBC/WBA junior welterweight titles last Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Garcia won a twelve round unanimous decision over mandatory challenger Lucas Matthysse (34-3, 32KOs).
Alexander, at 140-pounds, won a ten round split decision over Matthysse in 2011. That was Alexander's final match at junior welterweight. Alexander noted afterwards that he struggled to make weight for the bout with Matthysse.
