A unanimous decision versus Canelo was the worst thing that could have happened for Floyd, Golden Boy and Showtime. With how big the fight was this weekend, and how crazy it was in Vegas, and how easily Floyd beat Canelo where their is no chance of a rematch, this leaves Floyd and golden boy and showtime with no big ppvs left. Floyd versus Khan or Garcia or alexander or anyone other than pacquiao will result in most likely around 1 million buys, still good but not what they want. The fact he beat Canelo so easily who was supposed to be a decent threat, most people aren`t going to be excited about a Garcia or Khan ppv where they know these guys have no chance whatsoever. The best thing would have been a competitive fight where they could have a huge rematch. Nobody in Golden Boys staple will challenge Floyd, and after this week even casual boxing fans understand no one can beat him. So you will see a drop in ppv numbers as anybody that Golden boy has will instill zero confidence in the large amount of ppl who buy these PPVs, especially those who buy these ppvs in hopes of seeing floyd lose.
Pacquiao, I know what you all are thinking, this fights dead and will never happen. But.......what other big fight is out their to make?. After this huge weekend for boxing (I was there watching the fight at twin peaks at Planet Hollywood, had to pay $100 dollars to front door guy to get in before anyone else) in which no one had ever seen in Vegas, and with the expected massive PPV numbers, they will want another huge fight. If Pacquiao beats Rios and looks good then that is the only fight that can match and top what we all saw this weekend. That would cement Showtime as well as being number 1 in boxing over HBO. I think Floyd maybe didn`t want the fight as much in 2009 because he wasn`t quite the star he is now and he wasn`t making as much money as he is now, Pacquiao at that time represented a potential roadblock into him becoming the megastar highest paid athlete in sports today. Now that he has accomplished everything he wanted I think he would love a Pacquiao fight.
If Pacquiao beats Rios and looks good then people will still see him as a guy with a decent chance of catching Floyd. His footwork (better than Canelos) His speed (far superior to Canelos) and his power as well as the awkward angles in which he throws some of his punches represents something Floyd hasn`t really seen. Regardless if you are a Floyd fan or not this would be a whole new style for us to watch and see how Floyd deal with it. We all know size and power ìsn`t beating mayweather, but a combination of speed, footwork and power is something really only Pacquiao has out of all the potential Floyd opponents.
