Trying to sell an opponent for Floyd Mayweather

There was no unpredictability with Tyson people expected him to smash dudes, especially when I was talking about. People did question if it was worth it to pay for watching Tyson barely break a sweat. That's not a good comparison. The intrigue with Tyson, whether he fought Lewis or some fat plumber was the unpredictability and Knockout history.
Floyd has none of that. What are they gonna order thinking, "Gee, I wonder if Floyd can pull off another 12 round waltz of pot shotting, maybe if we're lucky we get treated to another Victor Ortiz 4rounder". Even the great Ali wouldn't have been intriguing enough for expensive PPV after PPV orders in a 90's and 2000's environment. He is lucky he didn't have to go through that with broadcast television and all.
This is just the other side of the coin watching 12 full rounds of dominance.
It is the same deal~
People will still watch though enough to make it worth everyone's while to be associated with him. He is at least 3 fights from there being an issue (without losing) this fight is a hit so the next one he will get a pass, the one after that they will give him another shot, the third one they will pull out all the stops if things went poorly and if that still doesn't work three strikes and your out it was a good run.
I am sure Ali would like to have that problem consider the staggering amounts that can get made by a fighter~Comment

Tyson's unpredictability factor was after him trying to break that one fighters arm while virtually KO'ing him after the ref broke them apart, and of course then the Holyfield incident. But even prior to that, the intrigue was the prison stint. You add that up with his past success as a Heavyweight Champ in the 80's, and he was a major 90's draw.
Fans were shallow and they're still shallow (and maybe rightfully so in some cases).
Good post Gambler, we will just have to agree to disagree. However, I'm predicting a flop in the next PPV, for reasons already mentioned. The Boom and Bust period is at it's tail end. Floyd cannot really get a 'pass' with opponents on this high level. Consumers will tolerate this if you're capable of decapitating your opponent or beating them to a pulp. And this isn't Wlad Klitschko's polite Germany.Last edited by cupocity303; 09-15-2013, 03:50 AM.Comment

watching that fight i thought, he probably won't be doing anywhere near the kinda numbers that people usually expect from him again. I'd be shocked if he broke 800k next time around. the only way he cracks a million will be with pacquiao even if he got ktfo by jmm.Comment

Yeah, Garcia and Khan would both sell well enough. Mayweather has a built in PPV base that would probably buy any fight, anyway.
A lot can happen in the amount of time where those two fights happen to build someone else up.Comment

Most of us will be cheering Mayweather lolComment

162?....ONE...SIXTY...TWO!!?? come on man...Floyd actually LOST WEIGHT between the weigh in and the fight! he says he woke up weighing 146lbs! and then weighed 150 before the fight!...he just isn't going to ever weigh much more than that...
if Ward got down to 162...he would rehydrate to what? ~170-175?? (Canelo got all the way back up to 165 for this fight)...Floyd could potentially be giving up 25-30lbs in the ring! thats crazy talk!Comment
