You take the title from the champ by beating him. You can beat him by decision, which simply means you score more points, as Molina did.

The phrase 'you must take the title from the champ' simply means that the champ keeps the title unless his opponent beats him, so draw won't cut it for the challenger but it will for the champion. In that sense, the challenger has a higher burden to win the title than the champion has to retain it.
