He didn't "beat" Judah and Alexander, but he had enough skill to keep up with them even-though he's not as talented as them. Matthysse lacks athleticism, but he knows how to make the most of what he has. It's the same with Garcia, I feel like they are of a similar caliber and that's what makes it so interesting.

Devon Alexander has a 300-10 amateur record, yet when Lucas Matthysse fought him Matthysse landed more overall punches, 29 more scoring punches and even a higher percentage of his jabs connected. In other words, in spite of giving up height, reach, and speed, Matthysse did better against Devon Alexander than Alexander did against Matthysse.Originally posted by MC Hammer View PostHe doesn't throw punches that put him on the mat. Also his Ameatur record is ridiculous. Every boxer whose seen him through the amateurs seems to agree, he's a hell of a boxer when he chooses to be
Matthysse also landed landed more over all punches, and more power (scoring) punches against Zab Judah than Judha landed against him, again whilst giving up height, reach and speed.
Statistically, Matthysse has done better against everyone he`s ever fought than they've done against him, even though in most fights Lucas gives up height and reach.
You don`t do better than everyone you've ever fought, in spite of being physically disadvantaged, unless you have some boxing ability.

Judah floored in the tenth round, and Lucas out-landed him 165-150...
Lucas "clearly lost" that fights.Last edited by MDPopescu; 09-17-2013, 10:31 AM.

I was just about to say exactly this...Originally posted by bojangles1987 View PostI skimmed, but every Garcia prediction had him winning because he's a skilled boxer whose defense will be too good. LOL.
If he proves that in this fight, okay, but he hasn't shown that yet at all.
He's not a "hit, and don't get hit" boxer... He's a punch while your punching boxer...
Like u said, not impossible, but it'll have to be something new from Garcia's repertoire that wins him the fight

surprised to see so much love for Garcia as a boxer
the man has gotten his hype for left hook KO's, not skillful boxing
would pick an A grade technical boxer over Lucas, but not Garcia
the guy is decent, nothing more, nothing less
Lucas will KO his ass

Lucas style suits him against taller fighters, because of the way he defends his body when he slips inOriginally posted by tito_bandito View PostI really think youll see a size difference with Garcia and Matthysse, and it's not a tall/lanky look like Peterson. Garcia is going to cut off the ring on Matthysse cuz the size will be imposing.
guys with a longer reach and willingness to clinch, also high volume guys can give Matthysse fits. Lucas is rightly the favorite in THIS fight as well as in his last fight
