Who has a greater legacy? Hopkins vs Jones Jr

Voted Hopkins based on his MW title run. When you look at their resumes 20-30 years from now, you're only gonna see names, and Hopkins has the better names on his resume. No one's gonna watch all their fights, and recognize the circumstances in which they happened.
Technically, Hopkins should win this.
Peak 4 peak, obviously Roy was the way more dominant fighter.
Edit: Upon further review. Roy's wins over B-Hop and Toney ****s on anyone's resume in the past decade. Even though it was a green Hop, his name is still on his record as a W.
Too close to call. 50/50.

RJJ was the best fighter on the planet during part of the 90's and 00's. And he went up from MW to HW. If you consider his legacy than you have to consider his losses.
If I had to pick one I would pick BHop
I don't agree. He cracks the top 10, but not top 3.
On second thought, I could perhaps mention 10 MWs I would rank higher than Hopkins. Though he had an undeniable run, the quality of his opponents were not always the best. I would also rank LaMotta considerably higher than Hopkins.¨
Upon another think, he does crack my top 10, but 8-10. Maybe 7.Last edited by LacedUp; 09-10-2013, 11:43 AM.

Fan of both but Hopkins record ****s on Roy's too be honest!
I'm not gonna say Roy ducked fighters but he had the opportunity to fight some greats and passed! And his fans give him a bye by just using the excuse that he would have beaten them anyways!!
Bernard Hopkins is a throwback fighter and his record shows that!

I think Hopkins held the middleweight title longer than any other middleweight and had more successful defenses. It's very close but I voted Jones because when both were at their best Jones was better. Jones was the best fighter in the world for a long time. No fighter can touch Hopkins when it comes to staying very good for a long time. Winning titles at his age is just amazing.

If jones would have retired when he should have, after the first tarver fight, this wouldn't even be discussed. His win over Hopkins at middle and toney at super middle are better than most fighters complete resume. Couple that with utter dominance at
Light heavy and a title win at heavyweight, then coming back down to reclaim his light heavyweight title, you have an ATG career. The losses to tarver and Johnson, then fighting on for far too long have made this a worthwhile discussion. Hopkins has longevity at middle, but no wins of real substance. The trinidad win was good at the time, but in hindsight he was undersized and one dimensional. The de la Hoya win is what it is, a win over a tubby superstar to give him some name recognition. The tarver and pavlik wins were great. But still don't come to matching, jones best wins. What we have now with Bhop winning titles at an advanced age, is a reason to move him from Hof'er to ATG. The fact he can still whoop title holders this late in his career marks him out as a once in a lifetime fighter, albeit in a different way to jones jr. As to who has the greater legacy, it depends on who you ask. Do you like the athleticism of jones or the precision of Hopkins. Some will prefer jones' flashy superman to Hopkins' psychological executioner. I believe that while jones was the greater fighter h2h, Hopkins will be remembered greater because of his records.

To think joe Calzaghe beat both of these fighters, back to back, in their prime. The welsh dragon, the greatest fighter to ever live.
P.s I was being sarcastic

Hindsight in that Hopkins wasn't the fighter he eventually became when he first fought Jones, he was a rank amateur back then. And the Toney that fought him was a zombie!
Coupled with the fact that Roy didn't fight the guys he should have at 160 or 168 then cherry picking John Ruiz, blatantly the weakest link in the heavyweight division for the title.. Hindsight can reveal a lot in his career!
Look I'm not trying to **** on Jones, he was one of my favourite fighters, undoubtedly he was one of the most gifted fighters of the last 50 years, and I feel a prime Jones would have beaten Calzaghe! But he could have done a lot more in his career to solidify himself as one of the greats!
