I'm starting to think this fight is going to hit 2 Million PPV buys (ESPN Coverage)

He's popular in Mexico and amongst boxing fans. Stand on some random corner for an hour and ask people who Canelo is. You might get two positive responses. This fight is happening too soon. Floyd's last fight flopped, so that's why we're getting it now. They should have let this one brew a bit, maybe should have been Floyd's last fight. Oh well. Still gonna be a great night of boxing for me, cuz I love boxing.Last edited by El Chicano; 09-10-2013, 12:44 AM.Comment

You guys got to remember that 2007 was a very special time; the "black box" that people in the hood used to watch free PPV fights was gone, but streaming fights online was nowhere near where it is today.
I don't think that amount of buys will ever happen again, to be honest.Comment

I don't know to many people that don't know who Canelo is personally; he has been on 3 of Floyds undercards people know who is; he's not Manny popular but he's getting there and if he beats Floyd he will be bigger than Manny. He's popular in Mexico and amongst boxing fans. If he blasts Floyd, everyone will know Canelo. Right now they just know "that red-headed Mexican kid".Comment

Canelo is not that well known to the average American. Nowhere near on the level of a de LA hoya, mayweather, pacquiaoComment

I don't think Floyd, Oscar, or Manny are well known among "average Americans" either. Average Americans aren't going to be the ones to buy this fight. It will be the 2 million die-hard, new school, old school, fringe fans that will buy this fight, and another million or so that go to theaters and bars or to Vegas to watch it. The "average Americans" will be the ones that show up at the party out of curiosity or to get phucked up and have fun and to be a part of something with a buzz that involves violence.
1.5 million die hards would buy this fight no matter the promotion; it's the other 500, 000 they are trying to find and motivate right now to put this thing over the top. We'll see if all of this promotion pays off. Based on how quickly the fight sold out, and based on the attendance for their tour spots, it seems more likely than not, that this fight will get close to 2 million, imo.Comment

85% of Floyd's fights are boring. Nowadays, people are only buying his PPVs to watch him lose and because of his WWE persona in the lead-up to the fight. Then everyone walks away disappointed when he stinks out the joint. Remember everyone booing during the Baldomir fight?Comment
