Bigger fight - Haye v Harrison or Haye v Fury?

As much as I like the British build up of a big heavyweight fight, there's a bit too much of sensationalism to come with it.

When Haye fought Harrison, they said it was the biggest heavyweight fight in the UK since Bruno-Lewis. They said the same with Chisora, and now it's being said again with Tyson Fury.

I even seem to recall someone saying it about Haye-Maccarinelli too!

So which fight was biggest? And I'm talking before it took place of course.
There's a couple of ways to look at it.

Harrison was a household name from the Olympics. Chisora had just fought Vitali and then brawled with Haye, and Tyson Fury has the highest rankings.

    Discuss.

Harrison was still a joke in the veiw of the British public when he fought Haye. Nobody thought he could win therefore the anticipation for this fight was low.

Chisora, the fight only appealed because of the punch up beforehand. Chisora had already lost a few fights aswell, so once again anticipation levels were not as low as the A Force fight but not that high IMO.

Fury, everyone is talking about this fight! And I mean everyone. All the lads on my Sqn don't even have a clue that Mayweather is fighting this weekend yet cannot wait for this one!

The Fury fight is without doubt the biggest UK heavyweight clash since Lewis V Bruno.

      Haye-Fury and it's not close.

Not a single fan outside of casuals considered Haye-Harrison to be anything but a joke.

I renember the build upto Haye-maccarinelli, bombs away it was called. Great sell to the casuals, all British unification, trash talk in the build up, the combined K.O%, on the surface it seemed like an awesome match up. Real boxing heads knew better.

Same with the Harrison fight. It was a good sell to the casual because of Harrison's amateur pedigree and his big mouth. But anyone that had seen him struggle with Michael sprott before landing a hail Mary shot knew he didn't have a chance against Haye.

The fury fight is probably the most competitive of the fights. Yes tysons been down and can be clumsy, but he can also box behind the jab and use his size and weight. If Haye doesnt land early, he sometimes runs out of ideas.

The chisora fight was probably the biggest promotion because of the press conference brawl and the fact that chisora is an iron chinned pressure fighter who had just gone 12 rounds with vitali after being robbed against helenius. Both being trash talkers, but with very contrasting personalities made for a great build up. Even though I always knew Haye was too much of a boxer for Derek, I secretly wondered wether his chin and pressure would allow him to pull a Thompson.

I agree with most points, but the Audley fight especially, looks bad in hindsight. People were up for that fight. There was news about the two guys almost every single day, and to be honest, the promotion has been kind of stale so far for Haye-Fury. Maybe it's going to heat up, but at this point of the Audley fight, people could hardly wait.

I don't know Dan. Of course, everyone with a sense of boxing knowledge knew Haye was the better of the two. But people really wanted to see it.

Let me ask another question, do you think the Haye-Fury fight will do better numbers than Haye-Harrison?

Only casuals wanted to see it.

No one other than them had any interest and it was considered a massive joke which it was.

Never in UK PPV history have I heard a commentator (Jim Watt) after a one sided Round 3 KO have I heard them say "Were we really expecting anyting else?"

Haye-Fury will unquestionably do better numbers. In PPV, at the Gate, Ticket sales, everything and by a wide margin.

This is a genuine, legit fight against the two best HW's in Britain.

I hope so, because it is definitely a more legitimate fight. I just can't surpass the hype of the Harrison fight. Everyone was talking about it.

I just think the promotion has been boring. They have hardly done anything other than appearing on Ringside.

Haye and Harrison were both on Sky, BBC, Soccer AM etc etc.

There definitely was more promotion, that fight needed it.

I'm abit disappointed with the promotion aswell but the Sky build up will start soon. The "Beyond the ropes" or whatever it's called.

Haye vs Areolla or winner of Haye vs Fury (vs) Chris.

I'm in the US though, so I have an obvious bias. From a US standpoint, Haye vs Fury is the biggest fight that TS mentioned.
